2nd midwife visit tomorrow

Hello!

I have my second midwife appointment tomorrow and am quite excited! I'll only be 14+2 but really hoping I can persuade her to have a go at hearing Flicker's heartbeat. Did anyone else get this done at 14 weeks? OH is trying to persuade me to 'borrow' a machine when we're both in the hospital and try ourselves.

Also need to talk to her about my back. Have been getting serious lower back pain, worse on the left and shooting down my leg. Has been so bad in the last week I can barely walk in the evenings - really hoping there's a solution out there!

Anyway with any luck I'll be able to report I heard Flicker flickering away tomorrow

Is there anything else to prepare for? Assuming no bloods as had those done last time?

Congratulations! Hope your appointment goes well. We got to hear our LOs heartbeat at 13 weeks, but it took the tech a good 15 minutes to find it, and once she did we only heard it for about 30 seconds before she moved! Can't hurt to give it a go though! You may get lucky!!

When I had my booking in appointment at 13 weeks for bloods etc she wouldnt listen to my baby's HB She said they wont do it until after your 20 week scan so if they dont find it then you wont be as anxious.

You might be lucky though and have a nice m/w!!!

At my 15 week midwife appointment the midwife checked the baby's heartbeat, I suppose it depends on midwives but there is no harm in asking.

I didn't get mine checked until 16 weeks and bought my own doppler off ebay.

Just ask hun, shouldn't be a problem. Just don't be offput if she doesn't get a clear beat, at that stage your heartbeat will still creep in if it can!

Hope all goes well

Good luck for your appointment

I heard my baby's heartbeat at 14+5 so your MW might do this for you. She'll also probably feel your tummy. It's really exciting to hear baby's heartbeat for the first time

Your back problem sounds the same as another lady who posted a thread a couple of weeks ago. Lots of people on here thought it might be sciatica (sorry if I spelt this wrong). Which I think is where the muscle in your bottom squeezes the sciatic nerve. Lots of people get it and I believe massage can help. Hopefully your MW will some ideas for you.

Hello,

Thanks for all the info guys, no luck on hb locating today, but she did say I could pop back in a few weeks and have a go then if I wanted, she was so lovely.

Back pain is thought to be sciatica so got referred to the physio for that and OH is now condemned to carry my bags forthe next 6 months- he does look good with a pink handbag!

Slight curve thrown in though as I had some glucose in my urine and my random capillary blood glucose was a little high, so I had a venous sample taken and if that also comes back a little high I have to go for a glucose tolerance test.

Keeping my fingers tightly crossed it'll be normal!

Good luck for your appt!! I had my booking in visit today and the midwife without me asking offered to find the heartbeat - It was brill especially as I wasn't expecting her to offer!!!!!

With the leg pain it does sound suspiciously like sciatica!?!? Ask the midwife about it - it's a trapped nerve in your back.
