I'm Currently Feeling: | Ask your midwife because all the leaflets I've been reading say ur meant to have injection after a miscarriage or knock. But if you didnt have injection i THINK more bllod tests have to be taken throughout ur pregnancy to monitor if ur building anti-bodies. |

| It also depends on the blood type of the father. If you are rh negative and he is rh positive, then he can produce an rh positive baby, which is where problems can arrise. If he is rh negative as well, your baby will be rh negative and there will be no problems.
This site has good info. http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pre.../rhfactor.html |

| Wow, this is the first I've ever heard of any of this! I don't even know if I'm Rh+ or Rh-. All I was told was that my blood type was A.
I also had a miscarriage last autumn and never was told anything about the injection.
Among Chinese people (I live in China) it is extremely rare to have Rh- blood, so maybe they are not used to dealing with this. I'm glad I found out now, I will check with my doctor at my next appointment! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi Holly!
I am sure everything will be fine. You should definately phone up the midwife/doctor for more information if you are worried.
If I remember correctly, you miscarried quite early on last time (under 10 weeks?) and this is probably why you didn't get the blood tests done as they usually wait until 16 weeks (or your first midwife appointment in some places- 10 - 11 weeks).
I don't know too much about rhesus negative (my mum is rhesus negative though). I am awaiting my blood type results as well and if I am rhesus negative, I will be in the same boat as you as I miscarried in November (very early on though, at about 4 and a half weeks). It does make you wonder why women aren't given blood type tests much earlier on as miscarriage is so common early on and there are probably loads of women who have miscarried and then gone on to find out that they are rhesus negative during their next pregnancy. |

| Hi Holly
Try not to worry sweet pea from reading everyone's positive comments on this thread it seems that they will have it under control for you and it seems you are having a great pregnancy so not to worry sweetie you will have your injection between 25-30 weeks so that it prevents it from happening next time and it will be in your notes to check once you have baby and then if they feel you need another injection you will have one.
Is awful though that they didn't check your blood type when you miscarried hun but at least they know now and they are able to assist you.
I always knew my blood group as have been a blood donor for years but it is amazing how many people never know.
So on that note ladies if you can give blood it is an amazing thing to do (obviously not while your pregnant!!) then you help others and also find out your blood type win/win situation!!
keep your chin up Holly xxxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm also rhesus negative (knew cause I'm a blood donor) and hubby is positive. I had a misscarriage at 4.5wks and having read up on it, asked whether I would need any injections. The doctor said that it was far too early for the baby to have blood that could mix with mine and that I think he said you would have to be at least 6wks before they might give you it. Then again this time they told me that any bleeding before 12 weeks shouldn't require an injection either, so maybe that's why they don't test your blood until later! Once they find out your blood type is negative, they test for the anitbodies too - did you get this yet? If not just ask about it at your next appointment. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm rhesus negative too, and DH is positive, so I know I will have to have the injections. The only risk is if the baby's blood gets into your bloodstream/crosses the placenta as far as I am aware, and this doesn't even always happen in childbirth. I'm no expert, but I don't think you need to worry because I think if anything untoward was going to occur it would have done by now. | | | | Status: Offline
