I think the discrepancy lies in the fact that people figure it out by taking 4 weeks in a month. In all actuality, there are close to 4 1/2 weeks in a month.

This totally confused me too I'm embarrassed to admit that I had to ask my MW at my first appointment how many weeks I would be pregnant

I'm still not sure how many months pregnant I am at any given time - at the moment I'm telling people 5 months, but then I'm also saying I'm half way through and they look puzzled as that's 4 1/2 months if pregnancy is 9 months.

And when do I become 6 months pregnant??

In weeks I know exactly where I am all the time... but apparently I cant equate this into months!!
When I was 24 weeks pregnant I said to my friend Im 6 months now- & she said no ur not & tried explaining this whole concept to me but I still dont get it?

How many months am I now?

Its 10 lunar months,I think 10 months that consist of 28 days.As Lee-Anne said a month doesn't have exactly 4 weeks,it has a bit more...so when it all comes together...it turns out 40 weeks

And the first two weeks of your pregnancy, that is the conception (egg being fertilised) bit so there is no baby as such for the first two weeks. Just to confuse us all a bit more!!!

Your ticker moves up a box when you are up a month. Mine says I´m 25 weeks pregnant, which according to that is 6 months. I just tell people I´m almost 6 months and due in August, they seem to understand that!!

The first two weeks of a 40 week pregnancy you aren't pregnant. The medical field counts from your last menstrual period. There's + 2weeks.

Including the above 2 weeks, you are 'pregnant' for 280 days.

Or if you ovulated on the 14th of the month or had IVF (average) you are pregnant an average of 266 days.

So, 280 / 7 days per week = 40 weeks (appx 10 months)

266 / 7 days per week = 38 weeks (appx 9.5 months)

Statistically speaking though a woman gives birth on average in her 41 week. Half of women go sooner, and half of women go later. So in the end a woman may be TRULY PREGNANT 9 to 10 months.

We're actually pregnant for 9 and a half months. Not 9. Then there are those 2 weeks they put at the beginning.
That's what all the health people over here say anyway.

I don't work out my months according to my weeks. I work it out how the calendar tells me. I keep them completely seperate because 1 month isn't 4 weeks. It's 4.5 weeks yet some are shorter than others. So it all gets confusing.

How I work it out: my LMP was 28 Nov. So then 28 Dec I was 1 month, 28 Jan 2 months.

Now I'm 5 months. If I wanted to work it out like all the websites say I should then.. I'm 21 weeks... 21-24 weeks = 5 months. LOL same difference.
