This isn't what you were asking but I believe that places like the Salvation Army will help you out with furniture etc if you have a place to live and nothing to put in it. A friend got help from them, this was several years ago but I should think that they would still do it. OK it's not the latest designer furniture (all stuff that's been donated) but everything was clean and neat and in good condition, not old junk, and most definitely better than sitting on the floor! Might be worth looking into?

I got a community care grant when i first moved into my house, and i think i got around £500. That was to buy a bed, cooker, fridge/freezer, carpets etc. They will only give you the money for essential things so when filling in the forms make sure you put in for essentials such as carpets, bed, cooker, etc.

I just did a bit of Googling and you could also try the 'furniture re-use network': "The FRN promote reuse of unwanted furniture and household items for the alleviation of need, hardship, distress and poverty." http://www.frn.org.uk, click on 'Need furniture' for a list of addresses.

Hope that helps some of you, it's definitely worth checking out - they are there to help people on low incomes who need furniture and electrical goods, so I'm sure they would love to hear from you

Free cycle is amazing. I do work for Womens Aid and I just got four bags of stuff for the women in the hostel that i do work for. Some of the stuff people put on is nearly new. I got my brother a leather suite. XX
