I'm not sure what 'too American' means, sounds like a silly prejudice to me. I'm intending to hypnobirth (I'm not American) and from what I've seen and read about it, it seems the way forward and it seems to be my greatest chance of having a drug free (or minimal at least) birth.

I've heard that hypnobirthing has really good results in terms of helping provide women with tools to relax etc in labour. I'm either going to get a CD/book or find a local class depending on cost, I'm pretty nervous about the birth and want to get myself as prepared as possible.

Apparently the NCT cd/book is very good if anyone is interested.

I have the hypnobirthing book (Mongan method) which is fab but I'm seriously considering ordering different CD's as I find the womans voice really irritating (which kinda defeats the object lol)

Yeah, but look who is giving that opinion - 'natalhypnotherepy.co.uk' - I think an impartial view would be more useful.
Well if I had studied them both then I could give more "useful" information ( I haven't actually looked too much into either yet as I'm not doing it until comfortably into 2nd tri) I think you would be hard pushed to find an impartial view on them

i appreciate this reply
my dh and i are going to attend a couple of hypnobirthing classes, have the book, etc.
i've been told by a close friend (she went through labor in nov.) that she found it to be extremely helpful. she also mentioned to take it with a grain of salt. i'm hoping with the hypno-techniques and what i've learned in prenatal yoga, i'll feel relatively prepared and calm. i am also open to medicine if need be.

i think regardless of what side of the pond we're on, we're all just trying to do our best to have the best birthing experience.

I wasn't critising you, just saying. I agree it will be almost impossible to find! Rather than different methods, they seem to me just to be different brands.

We are doing Hypnobirthing classes, 3 of them covering 6 hours, as we are planning a Home Birth and we are really enjoying them. We live in Surrey in a very quaint, rurual little town and so as far from American as you can get!!!

We don't buy into some of the stuff but that's fine, with everything, you take what you want to from it and make it work for you.

Can highly recommend it.

xxx
