Doula?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone out there is using a Doula? We met with one last night and she seems fantastic. Just wanted to see what others think about this?

We are having a doula and to be honest if I had not arranged her I would be absolutely bricking myself right now!!

My DH is extremely squeamish (he almost fainted the other day having his blood pressure taken) and I wanted to ensure I had someone with me.

She is fantastic and we seem to get on really well. She is experienced, knowledgeble and I feel very reassured when she is around.

Hope everything goes well for you!
x

I hope you dont mind me popping in as I'm not pregnant but I saw the topic "doula?" on the main page and if ever I see anyone asking about Doulas I can't help gushing about how great my doula was and just how much they are worth having around. I honestly feel that I wouldn't have had the positive experience I did without my doula! My husband is VERY anxious and I had a seriously bad medical phobia (which I have beaten with hypnotherapy). For us, a doula was a sensible option. A doula will not only support you as the mother, but she will support the Daddy to be too (My doula is CactusGirls doula)

They can charge anything between being free (some trainee doulas don't charge for the service, just mileage and they shouldn't really charge more than £200 for that) to about £500.

There is a hardship fund too for people who genuinely cannot afford to pay for the service.

There is a wealth of information on http://www.doula.org.uk

I am/was so inspired by my doula that I am looking at training as a Doula myself.

Hope that helps?

Hi. I'm currently training as a Doula, based in Hertfordshire. I'm a mum of 3 (home births) and have attended different types of births (home birth, natural breech delivery, caesarean etc.) As I'm still offically training, I'm cheap!! Qualified Doulas tend to charge between £350-£1,000 per birth package, depending on location and service offered. Let me know if anyone around London or Hertfordshire would be interested in a trainee Doula attending their birth
