Spent three days in hospital... (Long)

I got out of the hospital yesterday afternoon after being there for three whole days! It was due to a mix between extremely low iron levels in my blood paired with a bad flu. I tought I was going to die...

I went to work last friday like I normally do, picked my mom up (she was spending the weekend with me), picked my son up from daycare and dropped them both home. A few minutes after, I drove my other half to the Airport..he was going to a going away party in Ontario for the weekend. It took almost an hour to get to the Airport because of construction.... normally takes 15 minutes from here.

Came home, had supper a bit late and then I just rested in front of the TV. I put my son in bed at 07H30 and and hour later I was in bed too. I was just exausted.

Woke up Saturday morning feeling like I had been hit by a train at full speed. I had absolutely no energy. So much that after two and a half hours of being up, I told my mom I needed to go back to bed and asked her if she could take care of my boy. I slept another 5 hours... And I did nothing all day. I had fever, cold sweats, HUge headaches, and the list goes on. I got in bed at the same time as my son that night.

THe next morning, I finally decided that I should go to the hospital... that this was just not normal and ...dangerous for my little one in my tummy.

They didn't know about my iron levels being so low until they tested my blood and it appeared like I had no reasons to be there with just a flu. They did test me for all kinds of flu...including H1N1 that we havent's seen here in Canada since last October. We don't even hear about it anymore.

But because they did test me for it, they had to place me in Quaranteen for my whole stay. To make the matter worst, I was in the Obstetrics department...in a room that has a sole delivery purpose....with a delivery table.....not a hospital bed.

So OK, they did take great care of me... but being on that bed after the first night was a nightmare. My whole body was aching it was so painfull!

They made sure baby was ok... and baby was/is ok.

I could fill pages and pages with this story, but it all comes up to this. After checking my lungs, my heart, my blood, my urine, baby's heart, and a sample of my nose gunk...oh yeah, and three days on potassium enriched fluids, I was released from the hospital with this.

A verdict of: " You Iron level was extremely low, you were exausted, you caught a bad flu and your body was starting to shut down, but now you are on the right track. Take your Iron supplements, makes sure you eat a welll balanced diet and you will be ok. " "DID YOU SAY MY BODY WAS STARTING TO SHUT DOWN??? Well I sure am glad I finally decided to come see you guys....

So here it is, my story of how I almost died....but baby and I are doing ok...just need to get back on my feet. It will take a few days, but I will get there!

Ladies, don't wait to go see a doctor. Go right away. Better be safe than sorry. If I had waited another day, maybe I wouldn't be here to write this long post.
