decorating a room for baby girl and 5yo son

Ok well it looks like we will probably be getting a 2 bedroom house, all the 3 beds round here are out of budget- even the ones that need stuff done to them it would be way more expensive

So... I need some ideas on decorating a room!

My son will be 5 when LO is born, and I do plan on having her in our room at first.

Now borders and stickers on the wall anywhere near where my son can reach them (while standing on his bed too!) are an ABSOLUTE NO! Because he plays in his room and well sometimes he can't help it and he peels stuff off!!!

So how do I go about decorating a room for a 5yo boy and a baby girl??? What kind of themes could I have?
I'm good at art so painting something not too complicated on the walls could be an idea, or even a border that is stamps instead of stuck on.

rainforest could be good, you could use pixies (or fairies) in it for the girl, and then the animals could appeal to the boy...You could use those templates, or paint them on..whatever is easier

You could use primary colours and then coordinate with boats or trucks (or something similar) on the boy's side and maybe something like lady bugs on the girl's side.

We like a more modern look to kid's room. It can be fun without being 'boyish' or 'girlish'.

I think animals would be great, you could paint a tree with a monkey hanging off of it.

Have a look here: http://www.roomzaar.com/rate-my-spac...ery.esi?page=1

I love this one: http://www.roomzaar.com/rate-my-spac...i?oid=14294838

We plan on painting animals over our nursery walls .

I'm going for a garden feel to my nursery - plain walls but with lots of pictures and stickers and things with colourful bugs, plants, trees and animals. Can't wait to start putting ti all together! Can accessorise really well with this sort of theme as well

My son had a seaside themed room, we painted a big red and white lighthouse, seaguls, buckets, spades, etc, all painted on copied from postcards, we painted the top half blue with clouds just dabbed on with sponges, and just went from there, it was a lovely bright room, suitable for boy or girl and nothing able to be picked off the walls!

You could even paint a bill board on the wall and put chalk board paint in the middle so the children could write their own things on the right bits in chalk which is no to damaging if it spills over to another wall one time!

The beds just use the children's own duvets so bob the builder or whatever doesn't have to go out with the new room and you only really need paint to make the change!

You can take a theme as far or subtle as you want, and if you are not too experienced or confident then tracing stuff and enlarging it, or sticking to things like the lighthouse which are just symetrical objects.

Have loads of fun with it, and you have plenty of time, dd was in with us for 10 months b4 she went into the room with her sister!
