Antenatal Swimming

Hi ladies,

I have a quick question that I hope someone might be able to answer. I know that your employer needs to give you a reasonable amount of time off for antenatal care like midwife appointments and also antenatal classes. But does anyone know if these antenatal classes are only classes on birth and breastfeeding etc. or can they also be antenatal swimming? There is an antenatal swimming on at our local swimming pool, which I would love to attend, but it is during the week at 10.30. So I was wondering if I could attend it as part of my antenatal care? I already suffer from backaches, so I am hoping that this might help.

Might ask the midwife next time I see her, but just thought someone on here might know.

I was under the impression that its only essetial medical care appointments that employers needed to free you for!
However if you can get some sort of letter of referal from your midwife then maybe?
Or ask your Midwife for a Physio referal as there may be a physio therepist led swimming sesion in your area!

I thought this too but the NCT have informed me that I have the right to take time off for antenatal classes too. I wonder why my employer didn't inform me of that??!!!! Lol

Hey, wouldn't hurt to ask regardless! Espesially if you have an easy going boss...maybe take it out of your hour lunch or break times???

A friend of mine had to be given time off every week to attend the gym within working hours after the doctor referred her for gym sessions with a personal trainer for problems with her hip. I know it's not pregnancy related but I don't see why it should be any different.
