Furniture For A Nursery?

Morning everyone and Happy Mothers Day

My wife and I are getting to the stage now where it is time to start thinking about decorating the nursery, we have been looking at furniture and I am just wondering what people would consider essentials?

The package from Mamas and Papas we like has a cot/bed, wardrobe and a changing top drawer type thing. What else should we consider?

Thanks

For DD we had cot, chest of drawers with changing table on top, and a tall unit with some more drawers wtih space for nappies, muslines etc... there was a built in wardrobe in the room already which we used for her hanging clothes.
For this one, there is no built in storage, but we only use half the drawers in DDs unit, so we're going to buy the same on again and make half a hanging space.
We have a chair in her room for feeds before bed, but that was something we had already.
All our furniture came from ikea, i really love the mix and match aspect of it! we chose the trofast range as it is very adaptable... hope that helps!

We have ordered a double wardbobe, a single with shelves in, a chest of 3 drawers, a cot and a changer table.

We have gone for "people" sized wardrobes and drawers so they last her longer as the baby sized ones are cute but I know we would need new in a years time so thinking of cash flow!

We're the same as Pops.
Got a wardrobe that can be used later (just a cheap Ikea one but it's pretty sturdy and we have the same ones in our room)
Also bought at Stokke Sleepi cot It can be used till the kid is around 9 or 10 because keeps expanding.
And bought the Stokke Care changing table because it can convert to a desk.
I would consider these the only 'essentials' in a nursery.

i think we're going with a cotbed, chest of drawers (which we'll put the changing mat on top of) & a wardrobe. the room is going to be spare room / nursery, so we've got a futon on there & a bookcase (compressed from 3 massive, over full bookcases, so we've cleared some space!). we've got the cotbed already (not the mattress yet), & will probably do an ikea jobby for the chest of drawers & wardrobe.
xx

I think my hubby and I are just gonna buy a crib and dresser drawers...we figure we can change the baby anywhere and don't need to spend 300-400 on a special change table.

I thought that too, but I'm actually really glad we got one! so much easier on the back and knees for me I think. but then we're in a flat so everything is on one floor, may be less useful if it would mean traipsing up and down stairs for changes during the day. I dunno, it's just handing having somewhere to keep everthing! Ikea do one for under 20 quid...

we went for this one for the same reasons others ave said the drawers are a decent size for any age the wardrobe is full length and wide enough to last her a long time and the cot is a cot bed so is a longer term option for us, the changing table part comes on to so its just drawers afterwards

My essentials were a cot and a chest of drawers. I wouldn't say it's essential, but a comfortable high back chair is also useful depending on where you are planning on doing the dreaded night feeds. You don't need a rocking chair unless you particularly want one.

I might have considered getting a wardrobe if I'd had a girl, because dresses suit being hung up better, but does anyone really bother hanging up baby t-shirts, jeans or vests? My top tip would be to get a unit with plenty of drawers, so you have somewhere to put the next size clothes when you're reaching the changeover of two sizes.

I also objected to the amount of money a lot of places charge for a simple chest of drawers. So, I chose a white cot from mothercare as it's an easy colour to match to - not like wood where a slight difference is really obvious. I chose a white 5+2 chest of drawers from Ikea for about £70. The cheapest drawer unit in mamas & papas is £200 - the most expensive £900 - I mean how can they justify it - they have hardly any storage space either!

I wouldn't say a changing unit is an essential at all, before long I suspect most parents end up changing baby on their bed, so you might as well start that way too! I like to have a nice sit down while I'm changing him, so the height isn't an issue for me. I also know of a couple of babies who rolled off them because their parents had been lulled into a false sense of security by them having edges.
