I have been sick from day one....and am now about 17ish weeks. as long as I take my diclectin at night I am pretty good the next day. I have lived on ginger ale and pink peppermints....they seem to calm my tummy troubles down some. I was hoping to get rid of the morning sickness, but it just seems to be sticking around. As long as Baby is born happy & healthy I am a happy camper.

This has been really difficult, and although I'm on Diclectin for the MS, I'm still suffering from nausea and throwing up. I know (and hope) this will pass soon, as most women experience relief by 16 -20 weeks. My question is, will I ever be able to handle the smell of food cooking again? I haven't ate a meal with my family in over 5 weeks. I kind of pick at things here and there and hope that I can keep them down.

Has anyone else suffered with this during first trimester, and found relief?
oh yes it was bad from week 6 until week 12.5 for me, it went as quickly as it came though thank god and got back to normal by the 2nd trimester. Dont worry it will go soon, it seems like a lifetime of sickness, I had mine all day too and went off everything including all hot drinks!!
All i could eat was macdonalds spag bol and pizza!!
i got all my cravings out the way then as I was so restricted to what I could eat without feeling worse, but now Im back to a well balanced diet.
The only thing I never went back to after that horendous experience was fresh fish, tuna steaks, salmon fillets and mackrel which i loved before I was pregnant. Now back to tea and coffee too (decaff) which is good as I felt such a freak goiing in starbucks and ordering an orange juice!!

Hi Hun I had really bad morning/all day sickness too and couldn't stand the smell of food cooking. My poor partner was a star and cooked all our meals for us. It does end though. I think mine ended by about 16 weeks too.

I'm able to drink tea again (yay) and eat every thing I like apart from everything your advised to avoid.

The constant nausea for me has mostly gone. I still get it in the evenings before I eat dinner but goes when I eat. I only threw up a handful of times but I am sorry to say I am still struggling with the smells - frying food is pretty awful and I find I really only want bland food when I liked much stronger food previously. I keep a large bag of Extra Strong Mints in my handbag as these are generally strong enough stop the smell making me gag. I have to walk past a fast food cafe on the way to work and have to hold my nose as I go past the kitchen extract as it is awful. I think some of it is psychological for me as I feel sick before I get to it on the way home but there is no other route that I can take to avoid it ! However, if I don't have to smell it then I don't seem to have a problem with eating it once I have forced the first couple of mouthfuls down (think that's psychological again!) If OH is cooking I sit away from the kitchen until it is ready and then I am fine. If I cook (which I can now which is great) then I only cook bland, non smelly foods like risotto and things like that!

So even if it doesn't go completely it becomes much more manageable. Either way, it should improve.

Thanks all...it has been a struggle, and as excited as I am about baby, it has placed a cloud over enjoying the first weeks of pregnancy. Fingers crossed that it ends soon.
