14 weeks - Upper Back Ache

Hi All

Just want some advice really. I've been suffering with upper back ache that seems to move around from along my spine to under a shoulder blade etc for the last couple of weeks now and am also coming down with a cold which isn't making it feel any better! I've been rubbing vapour rub on my back and that seems to be bringing the phlegm up (TMI sorry!!) but it's not really doing anything for the aching.

I know i can't use deep heat or anything like that but wondered if i could use a direct to skin heat patch, those ones that stay warm for 8 hours (I sit at a computer all day so that's not helping matters either). I asked my Pharmacist and as usual they just went "eeerrrr i dunno" - helpful! I'll be 15 weeks preg on Monday and i would assume that as the patch would be on my upper back and nowhere near the sproglet it should be ok - what do u reckon?

Thanks for any advice ladies

My MW said i could use a hot water bottle (not super hot) or bean bag thing for my lower back pain as long as i don't overheat but i'm not sure about the patches. Sorry i couldn't be more help.

I don't want to worry you, but it would be worth going to see your GP to ask their opinion as to what might be causing it.

It could be something as simple as wearing a bra that is a bit too tight around the rib cage, sitting in a draught or needing to change your pillows or mattress. However, there might be some medical cause as well so it's best to get it checked out

I hope you are feeling a bit better soon xxx
