Has anyone had a VBAC?

I am looking for people who have attempted, whether successfully or not, a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I am looking for..I don't know...how was it? Did it work? What didn't work? What the Dr's said etc... I am thinking about asking for one, assuming all is OK. I have had two previous c-sections, one under a general (which is why I want a VBAC so bad, because I want to be awake). But, TBH, I am scared out of my witts...because I don't want to put myself or my baby at risk. So, looking specifically for personal experience. Thanks in advance. Tina x x

Sorry I cant help you but I am looking for the same info, I had a vaginal birth with eldest son, and had an emergency section with the last preg (twins @28 wks)
I saw my gyno consultant this morning and asked about the risks and I found him to be very vague, telling me that I would be properly monitored during preg and birth, but my fears stem from me being on daily clexane injections and the risk of tearing/bleeding, I think my best bet is going to be asking my midwife cuz she at least explains things to me.
Good Luck I will be following this thread with intrest x

I have had one With my first I had a normal vaginal birth, with my second it was an unneccesary "emergency" csection, then VBAC with my third. I even had to be induced with my VBAC but it went very well. No complications at all. The contractions did seem worse and I don't know if it was the previous csection or what. But it was def worse than my first that I labored through. But it was also very quick, went from 4cm to him born in 1hr 43min....so that probably had something to do with it too.

I will def do it again with my next, which I'm planning a homebirth when the time comes

Thanks so much for your response and sharing your story. I have never had a vag birth, I have had two sections. The first was because of complete previa, and the second mostly was because I had a first, but I had diabetes so there was a question of size (she was only 8lbs3oz because she came three weeks early). I haven't spoken to my dr about it all yet...but, just trying to get informed and feel it out. It scares the crap out of me TBH, because I can't have a epidural (which is why I want a VBAC so bad, because I had to have a general) so I would be feeling the pain. But, I so want to be there for my baby's birth. Please, if anyone else has had one...please share with me...good or bad...and if you don't feel like writing it...message me please! Tina

I attempted one - a homebirth in fact - but never managed, but it was still a really good experience. I'm happy to answer any questions.

I had a succesful one with just gas and air after a emergency section-my little boy was in a funny position and i got to 9cm and then didnt progress.
I am really glad i went for it, more than anything i wanted to go into labour naturally and anything else was a bounus-One of the things that made it possible(i believe) is that they wanted to continuously monitor me but because i was active they couldnt get a good trace so had to break my waters and put a clip on the babys head-breaking my waters sped things up, in the first four hours i got to 4cm, they broke my waters and i was fully dilated in 40mins and then did an hours pushing. I think that had they not broken my waters it would have taken a lot longer and i think i may then have wanted an epidural? As it was i was fine with gas and air, infact they took it off me for the last part of the pushing and it was fine, epeasiotomy and all!
In general i found the midwifes were much more positive about the whole thing than the consultants who seemed fairly keen for me to just have a section. I am happy to answer any questions you may have but over all i am really pleased i went for it-hope you get the birth you want
x

Hey!
I'm on my 3rd VBAC. My first DD was born by emergency section (which I hated) and 16months later I was encourage to have a VBAC with my second DD - very successful only used gas and air!
My third DD arrived 12months after that - VBAC again and was a very quick labour and fairly quick delivery
My consultant was only worried because I had my first 3 very close together, but all was fine and I am due to have another VBAC in October

I've heard that here in the UK a VBAC is encouraged, but in America/Canada the medical teams are more concerned?

Anyway, all in all I've had 2 VBACs and I would personally recommend.

Good luck with whatever you choose - it will be the right decision for you xxxxxxxx
