I'm Currently Feeling:

Signed off work to rest today

I was in London at a big meeting yesterday and held my bladder for about 2.5 hours. Towards the end of the meeting I started noticing that I was having a tightening in my bump frequently (braxton hicks, I think). I got really worried about the frequency and went to my mum's and laid down for the rest of the night and they subsided.

Went to GP this morning who checked baby, urine etc etc. She says I have a small trace of protein and lukoceites? In my urine which could indicate a bladder infection. She has proscribed me a round of antibiotics and said to contact the MW or hospital if the contractions become regular or painful.

I'm off work today slobbing around, but I'm still getting these 'tightenings' every so often, say about one an hour. Does anyone else get lots of Braxton Hicks? I'm obviously worried about pre-term labour, but feel I need more reassurance.

I was getting them today for about half an hour on and off.

And I also had protein and that other thing in my urine sample and was told I had an 'awful water infection.' Didn't get antibiotics though because I haven't had any symptoms

ive also been worried about the increase in braxton hicks ive had over the last week..
I also had my urine checked with the midwife, she found small amounts of leukocytes aswell but said this is normal in pregnancy and probably not an infection.. i hope she knows wat shes talking about!

Hi hun

I had something very similiar (tightening around my bump). I was terrified and thought I was going into labour . I contacted my midwife and she told me it sounded like a urine/bladder infection and told me to go to my GP. I went to the GP and she examined my urine and it had leukocytes in it - a sign of an infection. I was prescribed antibiotics and after a day or so of taking the antibiotics the tightening decreased and gradually went away. I am just grand now but was so scared. This happened about a week ago.

It was a horrible experiences as I was in agony and could barely walk. I now drinking sooo much more water!!! I hope you are okay now.

Try not to worry too much, I got braxton hicks everyday from 24 weeks onwards with my last pregnancy. Just make sure you rest and go back to your midwife or doctor if you're still concerned xxx
