I'm getting the same cramp every few nights. A girlfriend of mine told me she heard that taking more calcium is supposed to help. But her doctor gave her a wonderful tip to get rid of it quicker when you feel it come on.....instead of pointing your toes away from you, stretch your leg and point your toes towards your head...

It has worked wonderfully for both of us! it doesn't stop it from happening again but it gets rid of it that much faster, (and I can even let DH stay asleep).

I was going to suggest this too. Lack of water and lack of salt in your diet causes cramps. Make sure your getting enough of both. Good luck xx

I remember them all too well off when i was pregnant with my DS. They are horrendous, and i don't want to get them this time. I used to jump out of bed screaming and stamping my feet on the floor frightening OH half to death
I'm hoping i don't get any this time around, but who knows.

The only thing that helped me when I had excrutiating pains in my calf muscles was to get out of bed or off the chair and stand up.

As hard as it is or even if you feel you can't, you have to stand up as this will really help I promise.

It's just a muscle spasm. I've had them since I was about 12. They come from over extending the muscle, which is quite common during sleep as a lot of people stretch through the legs and toes. I also get them when dancing if I over extend too.

The best way of getting instant relief, is to grab the foot and circle at the ankle, if you feel the pain is so much that you can't phyiscally do this then get your oh to do it for you, simply get him to hld your leg in one hand, foot in the other and slowly start to circle the foot.

This will ease the pain, but the muscle will still feel really tight so just try to let it relax and walk on it normally.

Im going to suggest dehydration as a cause aswell. We are supposed to drink about 4 litres of water a day when pregnant (not sure of the truth in this-found it on some website) so if ur way off this mark, try upping ur fluid intake n see if it helps. Cant hurt to try eh?

Yep this is definitely cramps.. I woke up with this at 4am this morning. Now I have an achy calf muscle

Definitely flexing your toes upwards towards you helps.. although it feels horrible to do at the time but makes it ease a lot faster.

I have found i get it more when I'm more dehydrated so I try to drink more (then I'm up half the night weeing! lol) Never tried milk for it... although milk is a godsend for my heartburn so will give it a try

xx

thanks for your suggestions, I have been eating more bananas and still drinking the milk before bead and actually for the last three nights havent had any yet!!!
Salt could be it, I never add salt to anything so maybe I should start putting it in pasta water etc and yeah I could drink more water.

Hoping it stays away! thanks everyone! xx
