Money Worries (Sorry Rant)

Im so so worried about money at the moment. Im in the military and have been for 7 1/2 years now and my pay is pretty decent. But DH has been layed off and he was on fantastic pay (He's not military) and i don't want to just get by with baby.... i want to be able to get the things i want for her! I know this may sound reallly selfish as i am by no means stuck up. I will quite happily take things second hand you know, but im just worried bout everything we are having to pay out on my wages alone!
Does anyone else have these problems??
Sorry bout the rant xxx

I can see why you are worried, my husband is in the army and is the soul income, I have found it hard getting a job since we moved and now I am pregnant I am not going to bother!
I think its surprising what you can achieve and get when you are deterrmind. I am sure evrything will work out in the end!!

Well, I'm not working at the moment and was sacked for being off sick the end of last year (found out it was actually morning sickness that got me fired haha!)

Anyway, OH isn't on a brilliant wage but enough that we've managed to get our own place but it means we have to be tight with money for a bit. I completely understand what you mean about wanting to buy lots for bubs as I want that too - but most of our family / friends have already given or brought us pretty much everything we need, so it's a blessing really. Bubs is still going to get spoilt without the need to spend a lot of money xx

Hi Honey, I'm right there with you!

I earn a good bit more than my OH, although he's working his backside off. he had an injury at work last year that meant he was off for 6 months unpaid and we were right in the middle of buying a house, so all our savings went and we were trying to manage on my wage alone, so I managed to clock up a fair bit in credit cards and overdrafts to make up the deficit. Now we're slowly but surely trying to get back from that, but with bubba on the way, there's so much that I want/ need to get and then and the maternity package is so rubbish in the company that I work for that i'm freaking out about how we'll manage the basics like paying bills when I'm off.

You're not alone love - just wish I had some helpful advice to offer!

What we need is a BNB Lotto syndicate!!!

My husband and I are kind of struggling. I mean, not struggling, struggling, but we have two older kids (5 and almost 7 year olds) and they both want to go in swim club for the summer...that's $600, Jasper just dfinished hockey...that is going up another $100 so now that is going to be $300 that we have to pay this summer. Makena is going to want to do ballet...that is another $50/month plus registration and costume fees. Then we have our car payments, insurance, house mortgage, food (which we probably spend about $600-$800 month). Soon we will need diapers, plus a stroller (our only big purchase I hope). I am off work, and although I am still getting paid, they have averaged out my pay to be 21 hours per week, and when I have the baby, that gets cut by 45%. Hubby is thinking of getting a part time job (he already works 40 hours a week). It will be tight...but, somehow we will make it. We always do. I wish I had extras or the money to go on vacation...but, I know that will come too. It will work out...things always do, right?

As a lady at work said to me 'my son is 17 and I haven't had to sell him yet'. Wise words my friend.

Something always happens, and we always get by x

Getting by is more than a lot of people can afford right now so start by seeing that not as a negative thing and trying to build up from that. When we run into money issues I always try see the positives, atleast we can afford to pay the bills.

Baby's really don't want much, concentrate on what Baby needs. Spoiling your baby with love and devotion is ALOT more fulfilling than spoiling baby with 'stuff' bubs doesn't even care about.

Goodluck in your money situations try to stay positive!.

Hi Hun, I was also made redundant in september last year and have been looking for a job either doing temp or permanent work to no avail. My partner was also made redundant before Christmas and has managed to get a job and is back working but not on a brilliant wage.

I've got a midwife's appointment next Friday so I'm going to ask her about the two grants that are available. One is for £190.00 and every mum is entitled to this and the second one is for £500.00. They're available from when your 25 weeks and 29 weeks. With this money we'll be able to buy bump his/her cot, travel system, moses basket and hopefully other things we need for bump.

We'll get there but it is going to be a struggle.
