yeah, no, that would definitely NOT be happening here! My MIL is the "grandma" and my mom is the "nana". I am the one and only mom. That is kind of creepy for her to want that, if you ask me!!

My mom tried to pull something like this with me - her husband (not my father) is Russian and wants the baby to call him "Dja Dja" which is some Russian or Hungarian term for Grandfather. I said absolutely not, it sounds just like "Da Da" and we're only have one of those. I told her they'd have to come up with something else.

havent really got much advice for you but put it this way, if my kids ever called their grandma "mother", i'd go up the wall- even more so if it was on the fathers side. My son calls my dad "papa". Some may say that means "dad" but in my eyes it's just my 2 and half year old finding it easier to pronounce papa rather than grandpa- if he ever called his grandma "mum", i'd think something was a bit wrong there... thats just me tho.

Wow she sounds a bit domineering! I'm impressed you've put up with her so long lol. I couldnt!

No way on earth would I let anyone else have the name mum or anything that sounded close to mum, thats my name lol! I'm anticipating having a little tiff with my step mother in law she doesnt like granny but I want her to be granny as we already have nana ( my mother) and nanny ( dh's mother) xxx

Glad your hubby is backing you up on this one!!! My MIL calls her MIL 'mum' and I've always thought that was a bit odd! We've the added complication that my MIL is re-married and I'm not actually comfortable with baby calling her husband 'grandad' nor is my hubby and I'm pretty sure my FIL (hubbys dad) would be really upset if baby called the new husband grandad too. But knowing my MIL she'll do her best to make sure he is called grandad even tho he isn't even related!
