Antenatal Checks

I'm expecting my first in 4 weeks and im just wondering what they do?
It doesn't involve internal examinations does it? I'm dreading it i wont even get the smear test done. I just find it sick and wrong

I'm not sure but you could ring and ask so you're prepared.

You need to get used to the idea of an internal because you're gonna have one or two more before this is done.....

Internals don't tend to be done till the very end, around the time you're due unless you have something wrong which requires one sooner - like if you have a bleed.

If it's anything like my appointments, they usually just check your urine, blood pressure, feel your belly, listen to babies heart and ask some questions about how you're feeling. At some point you have some more blood tests done but I think thats at 30 weeks.

I agree with Mervs Mum though - it's best to try to get used to the idea of internals. They're not very dignified but pretty much inevitable during pregnancy and labour. You can refuse to have them but they do them for a good reason, for your own health and that of your baby.

I hope your appointment goes well.

And if its your dignity you're hoping to preserve then you've no chance.....

At my antenatal check ups they check my urine, blood, babys position heartbeat and growth and just asked me general questions about how i've been feeling. Not had any internals yet and the idea makes me feel a bit yuck but at the end of the day the midwives are used to it and labour is going to be possibly the most undignified thing in the world so I guess we just gotta get used to them!
