Slightly OT: How far will your birthing partner be away from you nearer the time??

Hi, just wondering if anybody has starting thinking about the whole having to go into Hospital thing yet? The reason why I am asking is that my Hubby currently works about 10 mins away from the house and it is quite comforting to know he is that close, but in three weeks he is starting a new job working 12 hour shifts 4 on 4 off and he will be over an hour away! Now I know that isn't too far away but with my DS once he decided to come he came very quick ( i only pushed for 15 minutes) so am slightly panicing about the time it will take him to get cover, sign himself out of work and get home to me!
I maybe worrying about this to much so wondered how far everybody elses partners are away from them and if anybody has any fab contingency plans bearing in mind I have my son to think about as well.
Sorry know this is way to early to start everyone thinking about this just wanted to know anyones thoughts xx

Hi hun. My partner works in IT and is always on the road. Sometimes he can be 10 minutes away and sometimes a few hours away. I am so worried that he will be too far away when it all happens but I'm guessing that as this is my first baby it will be a long labour and there wont be quite so much of a rush.

I see you are from Rutland. I'm from Lincolnshire. What hospital will you be going to?

Yep, Peterborough for me too. Did you go there for your first baby. I'm scared about what its like? One of my best friends is a midwife there but I've only been there for a scan and not seen any other parts of it.

I'm in the same situation DH will be working over an hour away by the time LO is due and I worried about the same thing. My sister works about 15 minutes away so Ihave srafted her in as back up. If I go into labour during the night all of our families are at least an hour away and we will need someone to look after DS. I have asked his favourite lady from his after school club if she would mind sitting with him until my parents arrive as she lives about 5 mins away.

DS was not a quick labour but I started panicking when I thought about being alone if DH could not get back on time. I feel so much better knowing I have a back up plan.

Same here! Hubby works away during the week, and doesn't drive! So to catch public transport from where he works could take 3 hours. Though his friend has said he'll drive him down.

We're hoping he'll have found something closer by the time baby comes, but I have my sister as an emergancy birthing partner.

My hubby sometimes works an hour away and sometimes it can be up to 4 hours away.

I've told him though that in the last few weeks he'll have to stay at the office which is an hour away. That'll be plenty of time i think and most people will go into labour at night anyway

My OH works about 10 min away (we live in blackburn) but he can go off-site, and can be in burnley, accrington, and was in huddersfeild the other day! but most of the time, the work is local..! and my mum is going to be there too, and she works and lives in preston, so she'd be at the hospital in half hour

My OH will be living about 30mins away depend on traffic but it is equal distance between his house and mine to the hospital basically. So if needs be he can meet me there I suppose.

Although I am determined he will be staying with me in the run up so he doesn't miss it and isn't out with his friends somewhere unreachable or in a shall we say 'funny' mood. lol
