binxyboo - Are you sure about that? I was told that the base bar would only turn off the airbag when the baby seat with fitted as well, so if you have a normal adult passenger with the base bar in place the airbag stil works....

I'm pretty sure that here (in the UK) it's illegal to put car seats in the front seat, I may be wrong though. I would put the car seat in the back.

I suggest you check out smartmaniacs.co.uk or even give Wellsmart a call directly.
The owner of Wellsmart recently had a baby and she used a Graco seat in her Smart.

Ok did a bit more research and found this post I did from last year where someone explains what they did to deactivate the airbag in their Smart.
Any Smart Car drivers? I'm trying to research seats and prams that will fit!!

Not everyone has a car with back seats, just to clarify it is legal to put the seat in the front as long as airbags are not active. Also as binxyboo mentioned the seat should also be pushed back as far as it goes. This seems to be the same all over the world (atleast the countries represented here, UK, USA and Aussie) .
