Is anyone been prescribed citalopram during pregnancy

Im 21 weeks and have been really bad with anxiety attacks, was giving citalopram but im worried it will harm the baby. has anyone else taking it?

i used to take ESCITALOPRAM and my doctor changed it when i was ttc. however my cousin took citalopram which is different when she was pregnant and that is supposed to be safe xx

hey, Yeah I started on citalopram 20mg last week. i been really down and hormonal. I looked at it like doctor wouldn't give me it if it wasn't safe and I thought its safer for baby me being happy n not so low. I read somewhere that it doesn't get into the fluid surrounding baby so it should be fine. Hope this helps and you get better

Your doctor will evaluate the risks v the benefits, and won't prescribe anything unsafe. I'm on Sertraline for depression and anxiety, and although they dropped the dose when we fell pregnant, the risks to baby and I would have been greater without the drugs than with

Yes, I'm on 40mg right now and have been since before getting pregnant. The doctors know and are in support. I actually wrote a big post on what my obgyn said about it, if you want to search my past posts, it's in the second tri board somewhere, from a few days ago.

I remember worrying so much before going on it, but that's half the battle. Anxiety messes up so many things. I was anxious about going on, anxious about it working or not working. I was anxious that it would stop me from worrying about things that I should worry about! Honestly, it's one of the best things I've done though. It's really helped my state and I feel normal, without those attacks, life is much better.

Hiya i work in secondary mental health care and we prescribe Citalopram quite a lot if necessary during pregnancy, it is one of the safer drugs to use and the benefits do outweigh any risks. It is a very effective medication particularly for anxiety however don't be alarmed if initially your anxiety increases as this is a common side effect when first prescribed. I really hope its effective for you and for all those other ladies taking antidepressants i really hope you all feel the benefit from them soon. Hugs xxx

Hi everyone, thanks for your reasuring answers. My anxiety was getting out of control so i guess its better for the baby if i take the tablets. I felt her kick alot a minute ago so thats made me feel better also.
