Bi-cornuate uterus (heart-shaped) anyone??

hi everyone

Have been to see my consultant this week (18 wks) to discuss my bi-cornuate uterus which was picked up when I m/c many years ago.

The hospital have said that as a result my baby may be slightly smaller than the average baby and I may well have a pre-term labour.

Problem being I then came home and googled the condition and I've frightened myself silly, stupid I know!! - couldnt sleep last night for worrying!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has got this condition and how your pregnancy and maybe previous ones have gone.

thanks for any help x x x x x

D'ya know what... I didn't know until this pregnancy, that my uterus is heart shaped !!! I'd never even heard of it before. I've carried 2 babies to term.. had one missed miscarriage.. baby died at 9wks, discovered at 12 weeks, no symptoms. And I've lost a twin in this pregnancy.... I think that's a fairly run-of-the mill experience for having babies from what I've seen on here... I don't know anymore about the condition, but I don't think it's interfered with any of my pregnancies....

P.S. For Gods Sake, DO NOT Google anything, ever again, otherwise you'll get slapped wrists from everyone in here

I have a heart shaped but have been told that as long as it is not severe (ie dividing your uterus in two) then it will have minimal impact on carrying baby to term. I too made the mistake of Googling it and got soo scared, but was reassured by my m/w after the scan. I hope you too will be reassured as time goes on

My uterus is heart shaped and I was told (by the sonographer) that sometimes it can be a problem at conception. Then my midwife said something about the baby having a higher chance of being breech, but at my 28 week appointment, he was head down and judging from his movements, is staying that way!

I was really worried about preterm labour too but my midwife doesn't seem to think it's an issue.

hiya,

I have this too, and I have gave birth to all my little ones before 35 weeks I'm afraid I have also lost 2 twins and had 2 miscarriages as well.

With some people they find it hard to conceive, with some they can miscarry, with some they have preterm births; with some they have breech babies
and with some they sail through until term; I really hope you are the one to sail through.

I found with all my pregnancies that I bled consistently, sometimes for weeks/months at a time

The bicornuate uterus tends to be alot more irritable than a normal shaped one and if you find that in a few weeks time you're starting to have braxton hicks then mention it to your dr and you can maybe get something to relax your uterus.

Just take care and know all the signs of labour before you're due.

xx
