Really bad round ligament pain??

I'm 18 weeks tomorrow with my first baby and this week have had seriously bad round ligament pain. It woke me up on Wed night and kept me awake the whole night - the only comfortable position was sitting crossed legged - right down my left hand side and into my groin. I went to the doctor's on Thursday and he said it was 'just' RLP and to carry on as normal... Friday and Saturday were totally fine but then I was woken up again with it last night and it's come back again tonight (although tonight it's also under my ribs).

It's so painful I feel like throwing up. All the advice I read says it's a 'short sharp stabbing pain'. Ha! It's so incredibly painful and keeps going for a decent amount of time (and I have a pretty high pain threshold...). It lasts from anything between 45mins and 6 hours so far, and doesn't seem to be brought on by anything in particular.

Baby is fine - heartbeat is still strong and I've had no bleeding so I guess at least that's good.

I wanted to know though - is such extreme pain normal? Do other people have this? When should I worry? Is pain under the ribs normal?? So many questions but I don't think I'd ever heard of this pain before getting pregnant!!

Thanks
xx

Yes, some girls get it like that I have gotten about 4 instances (one being so bad I was in tears and I still fear it, at 18 weeks). If it makes you feel better, after my last horrid one, they haven't come back

Are you petite? Maybe that is a factor, I don't know. I'm quite petite and had a 6 pack before, so I needed to stretch a lot

I had it like that about 18 weeks for a week. I even went to A&E in the end but it was fine and disappeared soon enough. xx

I'm suffering at the moment too. I have it all over my tummy. I think it's a combination of the growing pains and me doing to much bending over. Have you tried just taking it easy for a while? Hope you feel better soon hun xxx

Thanks for all your good wishes girls! I am pretty small and was fairly toned beforehand so I'm sure that has something to do with it...

Hope you feel better soon Philly!!

I've had round ligament pains about twice that was so horribly bad. The first time I had no clue what it was and it lasted a day. The second time was just as bad and it lasted about a week. It would seriously hurt to even sit at my computer. I would find a spot sitting that was decent and not want to move!!

I can say though, it does get better. Doing the move the in yoga called cat pose, seemed to help it a little bit. It helps back pain too haha
