Let me know what he says holywoodmum! (Sorry to go off topic) I have always thought drugs here are stronger, I sent some Excedrin Migraine home to my parents and they were shocked at how well they worked.

I just think it sucks that women should have to suffer through viruses and illnesses during pregnancy. It's too bad that our bodies don't have a natural defense that wards off these things when we are pregnant. I mean, we are suffering enough as it is. I just went through a really horrid and wicked stomach flu on Monday/Tuesday and threw up so much that I tore a bit of my esophogus and was vomitting blood. I am still recovering and I don't know how I survived. When I complained to hubby about how unfair it was to get sick while pregnant...he just told me to write a letter.

Ouch Jasmak, sounds like my DH! I've been sick with 4 bad colds (one turning into a sinusitis needing Abx) since pregnant, and DH caught one of them. He was moaning and complaining about how much he was suffering, while he's the one with no work and only night courses right now, I'm getting my butt out of bed at 6:15AM every day to go to work and STILL on diclectin for nausea/vomiting, all the while have cold after cold... I got no sympathy from him either

CameraGirl, he just said the regulatory authorities are very different, different hoops for them to jump through when it comes to having new drugs approved - didn't seem to think the formulation would necessarily vary... I guess different people are handing out the advice...
JASMAK, that sounds horrible, hope you're feeling better!
Junebug I agree men can be wimps. My friend is in the middle of chemo for breast cancer, and she met us on Saturday as we were in her neck of the woods (normally a flight and a drive away) and she had a cold and was still out and about. Her DH had the same cold and couldn't get out of bed!

I don't know about Sudafed, but I know Benadryl gets the green light, if you have allergies. Hope you feel better!

Thanks again CJ I will be buying sudafed later, I believe it is safe to take... I am living in the UK but I was born and grew up in another country and there they also got lots more medicines that are safe to take when pregnant than they do here! According to my pharmacist and NHS direct it is also not safe to take vicks vapour rub!

I am sure vicks is ok, but they don't recommend it for use when pregnant in this country. I have been using it since first tri and have a very active and healthy baby in there! Again where I come from vicks is absolutely fine. I think they are extra cautious here. When I had stomach flu they also wouldn't prescribe me or my DD any medicines to stop the vomitting, where I originally come from they would have given us meds. I am sure you are fine to take the stuff! Just a shame we can't have it on our exemption certificates!
