too circumcise or not to circumcise ??

too circumcise or not to circumcise

Can we keep the topic medical please... I know everyone has some pretty intense feelings on this.. Id like to get some unbiased opinions based solely on founded medical documentation

I am against circ. It is (let's not sugar coat the facts here) mutilation of a baby boys genitals -> unacceptable. There is no medical evidence to support it. Yes, he will have to learn to wash it when he grows up, but one would hope he would practise god standards of hygiene anyway.

Are you in the US? I think it is more common there... I think there are a lot of UK ladies on the board, so prepare yourself for an outpouring of horror... it's not that common here. Cripes, we don't even allow tail docking on dogs!

Hmmm, i tend to agree with the above post.

However, i respect the religious views of some when it comes to circ, although that doesn't mean i agree with it.

Lets put it this way, i would be horrified if someone tried to circ a son of mine, except for absolute medical reasons.

I was kind of looking more for anyone that could post some medical journals or studys done on the topic for either side of the coin.. I'm not looking to start a debate here I just want hard facts for both sides everyone is entitled to their opinion either way Im just posting this specifically looking for information

One of my brothers had to have it done here in the UK when he was a baby for medical reasons and growing up he had a lot of issues and pain from it. That is the only experience with it I have,
Sorry I cant be of more help!

If we have a boy in future, DH is making the decision. I felt very strongly that I didn't want to have my baby circumcised (unnecessary operation POV) but after talking to him and some ladies on here, I just decided to let DH decide as he's the one who has it done already!! If you get it done, just be sure to find a Dr you trust and who has a lot of experience.

Reasons for having it done for us personally include; DH has had it done (though this is a minor reason imo) it's meant to make it more difficult to catch STDs or get infections generally because there's nothing for bacteria etc to get stuck under/between (ie foreskin) and it's easier to keep clean (I have been with a cut and uncut parter and can really tell the difference - cut seems to get less 'stuff' stuck to it from boxers and smells less quickly (meaning less bacteria) - this is of course just from my experiences with these two partners, but both of them washed regularly and well!)... These are all things we have researched and read about (cross referencing sources on the internet).

This is just what we've discussed and decided for our baby if we have a boy, there are a lot of articles if you do a quick google, which compare the pros and cons of circumcision and you can find out some more factually based stuff. (I'd post some links tonight, but it's 2am and DH is getting peeved with me still being on the computer )..

xx

There is no real medical evidence to say men are unclean or anything else if they aren't circumcised. My husband is not circumsied and always says he would hate to be. He is extremely clean and never smells 'down there' at all.

If it aint broke, don't fix it, I say, and give your baby the choice when he is old enough to decide. Unless there is a genuine medical reason to do so, I don't think children should have their bodies altered.

my friend was circumsized as a child because foreskin was too tight and it was agony for him to use the toilet. he doesnt exactly talk about it but from what he's said in the past it was better than "not" having it done... ps: my OH isnt circumsized and he's always been fresh and dandy down below.

My partners son had to be circumcised due to medical reasons also and this is the only experience I have of it, he is 5 now and is having to have more surgery to remove scar tissue and stretch his Urethra as he's had quite a few problems with it since.
