| SPD? well I posted a while ago about his Iwas suffering from really bad lower back pain. But the pain isnt actually in my spine but in my pelvic area at the back, like at the top of my um on either side. And it occured to me the other day this might actually be SPD.
I assumed SPD was the sides of your hips not at the back?
The pain I have I only get after I have been moving around like walking or standing lots, or doing lots of bending, it gradually gets worse, and I find if I try to move my legs or bend forwards Iget incredible pain, like geting up and down from the loo, or climbing stairs. But normally if I go to bed, in the morning its back to normal. Its quite distrubbing, I cant even bend forward to put Noah in his cot without feeling like my pelvis is going to give way, like it cant support the trunk of my body.
Does this sound like SPDto those of you who have suffered? | | | | Status: Offline

| Well Cat I can sympahise as I havent been able to go out this week,it is so bad I have been crying. Cant open my legs and Dave has to put my knickers on for me (nice) as cant seperate legs to lift if you know what I mean.
I am having physio next week hopefully so will let you know Cat what they do etc but I am not holding much hope out,I do know that if they say I can giove birth naturally (am still awaiting the appt with consultant) and I feel like this with pelvis then I am defo having C-section even if I have to pay for it.
It is dehabilitating, lonely and soul destroying having SPD but we are all in it together and you need to chat then just PM me.
Take care hunny

| Aw you poor hunny, that must be so awfull for you. I hope they can do something to help relieve it a bit for you.
I think I must be a bit lucky cause so long as I dont do much Im fine. its just if I move around much its like it starts to losen things up and it all hurts, but once I have had a nights sleep it all goes back into place again. Strange cause I didnt have this before with Noah, did you suffer at all with your little girl? | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi Cat hun
The pains you are talking about at the mo, could be plain old back ache (which I had at the very early stages with both pregnancies) or could be SPD, although this usually comes on later as the baby gets bigger and your pelvis has to start supporting you more, mixed with the hormone levels......
I had physio today, I was tested for doing alsorts of things, the only thing I could do successfully was bend forward, everything else they asked me to do really hurt like crazy!
I have been given exercises to do.....I have to do the pelvic floor, I have to lay on my back and do the pelvic tilt, and I have to have lay on myback with something between my legs (a fists width) and squeeze my knees together for as long and as hard as I can, I have to do this 3 times a day.
I have also been fittted with a belt, and I have to give that a couple of days, then if no better, I have to ring them up and get some crutches, but I left there in agony!! I also have to sit on a pillow, with the base of my spine hanging over it, to ease the pressure there when on a hard surface!
I have a list of do's and don'ts and advice for labour and life in general and a contact number for immediate attention if needed!
See how you go babe, I would recommend going to your GP, I mean I was about 15 weeks when it all started for me, and the GP's refused bluntly to say it was SPD due to how early it all was and the fact that the pain was not in ONE specific area. It has taken all this time for me to get a diagnosis and be told it is official, I do have SPD and am now recieving the correct treatment for it!!
Good luck hun get to your GP, it could easily be just back ache...... as it is VERY normal in the early stages, but it is better to be safer than sorry and the earlier you can get it diagnosed if it is SPD the better and it could save a lot of pain in the future! x |

| Eekkk, yeah my pain started a few weeks ago, but seems to be getting worse. I get back pain anyway here and there and was consultant led last time due to spinal problems. But these pains are like nothing I have ever had before and are not related to my spine, and are far lower and more to the sides. The pain more comes from twisting, moving my legs or bending forward. I have a midwife appointment in about three weeks so I will see if I cant hold off till then.
Do you find that the pain is there 24 hours, or is it started off by moving around? I do find that once it starts in the day it wont go away again, untill Ihave had a full night sleep on it. And if I roll over onto my other side during the night it hurts like hell trying to get my legs to move at the hips. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | The pain is there 24/7, I am not getting much sleep at all as I find it painful laying down, turning in bed and getting out of bed etc, so there is not much relief at all, although the more I rest the less painful it is, but then I only have to be doing things for a little while and I start getting severe pain again......mine is not dedicated to my back, although that is where it started.
What activities hurt you, and how? I know you have already said, but can you be a bit more detailed. |

| Sorry to butt in on your post but the more I read the more I wonder if my problems are SPD. I went back to GP today who is referring me to physio, and I have to ring on Monday. Ihave had progressively worsening lower back pain, initially localised around right hip bone. Everytime I put weight on the leg I am in agony. Can't lift leg to go up stairs, can't roll over in bed, can't swing legs out of bed. Sat ds had to put socks on. Has started to spread left hip. Sojmetimes put weight on leg and feels like it gives way. Been a bit better today, but sometimes I can bearly move. Gets worse as day progressess normally. I bought a support belt and thought it was working for a few days but then was as bad as ever. I am hping it will settle down with physio. Sorry to go on as I know how bad things have been for you Tam. Do you think the physio is working for you? When i had probs with dd it worked well so I'm hoping they can sort it out. I get so grumpy with the pain. I shout at the kids then feel real bad. Even the girls at work say I'm grumpy whch is pretty rasre for me. |

But you have some of the same things that I struggle with for sure!
One of the things I have been told is to keep my knees together as much as possible, so go up the stairs one at a time, sleep with a pillow between my legs, roll onto my side and push myself up in bed to get out of it, get into the car by swinging both legs in and out of the car together, do NOT cross your legs. So them few things might make things a little easier for you! I hope so hun!
I have listed some exercises in the above post, have a go at them hun, that may help......
I hope you get your appointment thru very soon babe and hope you feel better very soon! x |

| Mummy2 my symptoms are much the same. Inormally spend most of my time sitting down so then I dont have a problem, but if Ido things, and this doesnt need to e strenuous, just things like housework, walking or standing for more than an hour or bending up and down in particular. I get pain in the back of my hips like a painfull ache and unsteadyness, so when Imove like trying to roll over in ed, or just adjust myself on the sofa etc it hurts, and feels really weak like I cant move my legs myself, and if I try to bend I feel like I cant support my upper body and have to hold onto thins to lower myself, cant put Noah in his cot etc. As soon as I over do it and it hurts, thats it and Im in pain for the rest of the day, even just aches just sitting still, its hard to get comfortable. But like Isay ecause a lot of the time Im sitting down its not a problem, if I do things and start to get it ache Ijust stop and sit again so it doesnt get worse. | | | | Status: Offline
