Hiya everyone

2day I had a second 20 weeks scan as last week they couldnt see my little girls heart clearly.

When the sonogropher scanned me she found 2 Echogenic Focis (golf balls) on her heart. She told me that at her last hospital this case would be referred to a cardiac person but as she just started at my hospital she wasnt sure of the next step so she checked with her boss. She come back with the news that nothing would be need to done.

Now im terrified tho as ive looked it up on google n these golf balls can be a sign of downs. This lady seemed concerned enough to want to send me to someone else but she was over ruled.

Now I feel like im playing a waiting game

Oh hun, that sounds like a horrible thing to be left with, after what should be a happy scan. You should demand a second opinion, see your MW asap. Just for peace of mind. Could you get in for a private scan anywhere, they tend to take a bit more time looking and expaining things.

Had you opted out if the downs test earlier on, or did you have it? How do you feel about having a Downs baby..... tough questions that you may not have to think about, but should just incase.

I opted out of the downs tests as im only 20 & the risk didnt seem so big but now this has popped up.

I know id love my little girl no matter what but I want to know before hand. Not when she's born

I totally agree with Anne Marie. You should definately push for getting more information from your doctor or midwife. Maybe they can give you another scan with an expert in this area.

Try not to stress though (I know - an easy thing to suggest, but a difficult one to do), as sometimes these things seen on a scan end up resolving themselves as the baby develops. However, you should definately try to get more information for your own peace of mind.

I might be mistaken but I think one of the other members, cupcake maybe, had the same thing happen at her scan.....
