Its also VERY low radiation, not like the Xray levels you have to look at broken bones etc! im sure the airport would have considered it, there will be some sort of policy about pregnant women im sure. Take yr notes with you as you would anyway, there are proof if you need exemption but I would have thought it very low dose radiation.

I wouldn't have an issue with the scan if I wasn't pregnant - I don't think they're of much value as it's already been shown that people can get past them but at the same time they are a deterrent.

However, I do have an issue that being pregnant there is no opt-out (the Code of Practice issued by the UK Department for Transport states this) and that they have not actually considered the impact on pregnant woman/their unborn children.

I have to conduct risk assessments on pregnant staff in my workplace and the HSE guidance is very much about complete avoidance of ionising radiation (thankfully we're an office/services based Company so it's not applicable to us) so it seems really odd to me that another branch of the Government is saying that although it's only a 'negligible' risk pregnant woman still are forced to go through with it.

I had my 20 week scan today and I asked the MW about the scanners, she went to check with the consultant obstetrician who said not to go through it if asked to. They have written in my notes to say this (so I can show them if asked) and have said that if the airport have a problem with it then they should call the hospital.

I would still call the airport and ask, you don't want your holiday ruined by them not letting you fly

Has anyone got an update on this? I'm flying on Thursday and I'd like to read some experiences.

Do you know if I requested to not go through the scanner and have a pat-down instead, would that be a possibility?

just got this of a site :

Earlier this month two women, one a Muslim, became the first people to be barred from boarding a flight at Manchester airport because they refused to go through a full-body scanner. The women, who were booked to fly to Islamabad with Pakistan International Airlines, were told they could not get on the plane after they refused to be scanned for medical and religious reasons.

think this will be me haha im off in 2 weeks..im a muslim and i do cover my head...altho for security reasons if i had to go threw the scanner i would...not so sure i want to now im pregnant tho...but as a muslim woman covering....who wants to bet i get asked to go threw it !! lol if u get a letter of ur mw to say liek ur pregnant and everything does that mean u wont have to go threw it...does it realy harm ur baby? xx
