Can't sleep because of constipation :(

Hi everyone,

Sorry for TMI but I can't sleep - Ive got the worst constipation you can imagine. I've just spent the past TWO HOURS on the toilet. I've been wondering if anybody else is suffering this badly, Ive had it for months and *nothing* helps (Lactulose, Fybergel, drinking water... nothing) - does it get better eventually?

(sorry very TMI) but I need to go, and the poo is right THERE ready to go, but it's like a ROCK that just refuses to come out. The two hours I spent on the toilet were literally just trying to push this thing out - and I have to resort to the most bizarre of positions to try and get it out. I stand up, I sit down, I squat over the toilet but not actually sitting on it, then I sit back down and rock backwards and forwards and bounce my butt up and down..... you name it I do it, all the while straining and straining – and still I can’t go.

Is anyone else struggling this badly?

Beccy

Aww hun sorry you have it so bad. Mine was pretty bad until I started taking benefiber and eating more fruits and vegetables.

For me, I was only going every 3-4 days and it was very hard little bits. Actually got hemorroids (piles), but thankfully internal so not painful.

If over the counter products aren't working, talk to your doc or midwife. I'm sure they will advise you. My doc told me to take benefiber 3x/day. I can mix it into anything and I don't even notice it's there.

Good luck!

oh hun! that sounds terrible
It is going to sound very grose but i heard about this from a nurse who took care of my grandma....when it just won't come out by force try to insert your index finger (after washing hands/wear gloves) and try to ride it out. I am sorry...i know its really grose but i feel bad that you are in so much pain
In general, for me, if I have some really hot beverage like tea/coffee first thing in the morning then I am able to go very easily.
Good luck hun!

Glycerin Suppositories!!! I've been very uncomfortable with constipation off and on...even when I go a lot, I still seem to get pains... But when I haven't been for a few days and feel REALLY bad, I just slip a glycerin suppository up there and it gets things moving!

Oh honey... I know exactly what you mean... I am also having 'poo'ing' troubles.... my added extra is that when I do manage to go, it is usually accompanied by blood... freaked me out the first couple of times and ended up at the maternity assessment unit. My next step is to try some of the products that have been suggested.

At least you know your not alone.... (if that helps?)

xx

Sounds like you've tried pretty much everything, so I don't know what to suggest. Prune juice usually helps for me. Just don't strain too much or you'll end up doing yourself more damage. Leaning back a bit with your feet up on a stool or something is supposed to help.
