i was just wondering, can incompetant cervix be diagnosed in the first trimester if you had a vaginal U/S ?? i had one at 8 weeks pregnant and they measured my cervix .... or is this something that slowly gets shorter and shorter in the second trimester?

Why do you think you have an incompetent cervix?

there really is no reason you should have an IC, really very very few people have this, i really would not worry hun...do you have a reason to think you have one? a previous biopsy? late stage D&C or something like that?? xx

Found this: A diagnosis of cervical incompetence is usually made on the basis of a woman's past pregnancy history. Classically this is following one or more late second trimester or early third trimeser losses (stillbirth). Usually they begin with painless leaking of liquor (the waters), or finding during pregnancy a gradual painless dilatation of the cervix, with membranes bulging into the vagina.

They're not contractions hun, they're just stretching pains like every woman gets when they're growing and trying to accomodate a growing baby. xxx

Hey, i agree they arent contractions....yr stretching! youll know when you get contractions ;-)

Dont worry and I would say dont read the pregnancy complications section.....there really is no need unless you get a complication and things on there will scare you. Please remember, complications are pretty infrequent, you will get pains (you gotta fit a baby in a pouch that was the size of a walnut) but its all normal......thats my thoughts anyway that keep me sane. xxxxx
