headaches...

Anyone else suffering terrible headaches? I've never really had that many headaches before I got pregnant. Now I suffer constantly. Its like one of those really bad tension headaches and I just cant shake them off, they last a couple of days sometimes and nothing I do gets rid of them. I've not mentioned them to the midwife as I dont expect there is much that can be done about them, but also because when I go in there I feel like I already have a list of complaints as long as my arm! I did mention it about 4 weeks ago at my last appointment and she put it in my notes, but I had an apointment yesterday and it was with a different midwife and she read it but never mentioned it.
Just basically wondered if anyone else suffered with this and if so did you talk to your midwife - what was the response?

thanks girls

Hi Gaby!

I totally sympathise as I have been suffering on and off tension headaches for the last couple of weeks. As I can take nothing for them, they have been really getting to me as well.

I went to the doctor a couple of days ago and she checked my blood pressure (which is fine). I have suffered from tension headaches and migraines in the past and, for me, they seem to come from neck tension - especially as I do a lot of reading, studying and work on the computer. I went to an oesteopath last year which really helped, but now that I am pregnant, I am unsure about how safe getting oesteopathy is. The doctor is going to find out for me as the doctor thinks that my recent headaches are a combination of this and pregnancy hormones.

I have also bought one of those warm heat pads that you put in the microwave and drape around your neck, that has really helped soothe neck tension.

I hope this is of some reassurance and help to you.

xxx

Often times it's the increase of hormones causing the headaches. I went through a week of headaches a month ago and since then haven't really had any.

Has your eyesight deteriorated since falling pregnant ? My eyesight got much worse - which was the cause of my horrible headaches. I just got contacts and glasses which help with the headache's now. Hope it helps.

I've been getting them quite alot too, but I've now got low blood pressure so I'm wondering if that's why....

If you start to have visual disturbance ( flashing lights, dots ) and/or swelling, you need to pop and see your midwife to rule out pre-eclampsia. But saying that, it is really common what with all your hormones and the extra blood pumping around.

I also find if we're due thunder, I'm gauranteed to get a headache.... I can normally tell you that we're gonna have a storm

I talked to my doctor about the headaches during my appointment two days ago and he said that it was just one of those pregnancy things. He suggested tylenol brand specifically... no more than three 500mg tabs in a day, preferably one at a time. Though please check with your midwife or doctor before you use this option... Myself I don't like taking anything unless I'm in tears basically.

I tend to get headaches in my forehead or on top of my head, I lie down and use an ice pack on my head and it usually helps.

I can totally sympathise with you. Mine have been terrible over the past week. I have been out and bought some lavender oil today to rub into my temples and I shall put a few drops in a bath. It's all around your neck and your forehead, isn't it? Dreadful. I've taken some paracetamol but they don't seem to do much. Someone I know who is pregnant was prescribed cocodamol and they seemed to help, so if they get really bad you could ask your doc that.

I get quite bad headaches and migraine when I'm not pregnant, and have been having headaches quite badly for the past few weeks. I can completely sympathise! They can really knock you for 6. I take the odd paracetamol if it doesn't ease on its own, and I've found that lying down with my eyes shut and a warm flannel on my forehead does calm things down. Also pushing in and rubbing on my temples shifts it sometimes. Hope you find an answer!
