Large nuchal normal chromosomes...

Hi, anyone out there whose baby had a large nuchal but normal chromosomes/cardiac scan?? I've been having regular growth scans which are all fine so far, I just wondered what happens at the end. I want a home birth but not sure if they'll make me deliver under consultant led care. Last appt my consultant said "I can see this baby going nearly to term"...which worried me a bit. I wasnt expecting to be induced early. Not sure if anyone can help but feels good to write it out xx

Hey a3my!!

My baby's nuchal was above 3 but then had gone down to 2.8 mm a week later (12 weeks) so far had a detailed 16 week scan, 20 week scan and heart scan and everything looks good I have also got to have growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks.

Did you have an amnio or just having regular scans? We decided against amnio because baby had a present nasal bone and all the scans have come back clear

But like you I'm not sure what happens at the end! I would of quite liked a home birth but just presumed I wouldn't be able to have one, I don't have a midwife appointment till 23 weeks

Hey Louise85! thanks for replying my baby's nuchal was 4.4mm. I was so worried I felt I had to know for sure so I had a CVS done, which was all normal (phew!!). I had the same as you, heart scan and growth scans at 16 and 20 weeks and all looked good for my baby too (so glad your baby was OK too). My next scan is at 27 weeks and he said monthly scans after that till the end. I asked if there could be anything else they hadnt been able to pick up (my consultant is pretty rubbish really, his communication skills leave a lot to be desired) and he just shrugged and said wait and see! I've just had a midwife appt at 24 weeks and she thought I'd have to deliver at the consultant unit I dont mind really as long as baby is OK.

anyway, its nice to know I'm not the only one xx

I'm sure consultants just worry you sometimes, after the heart scan she said to me "well all looks good but we'l have to wait till the birth" well I know that but surely everything looking good is a good sign that everything is well! And also 2.8 is only just under the "normal" cut off point so

I've heard of a few people who have had very high nuchal measurements and everythings been fine, I think they do too many tests these days and it just causes more cause for concern, I never had any of this with my DD!!

yeah I didnt either with my two DDs. I have much more faith in the midwives I've seen than the consultant! I'm sure we'll both have bonny boys
