So this is what heartburn feels like...

I don't like it!

I've never really had it before and I've now had it for two days running.. boo!

It's stopping me concentrating on anything and only eases whilst I'm eating.. then when I stop eating it starts again!

Can anyone give me advice on the best things to take for it and foods to eat/avoid etc to make it better as i don't like taking things if I can avoid it

(I'm in UK if that helps with what's available)

thank you

xxx

I have heartburn too, best things to avoid are acidic or spicy food as it can trigger it off.
I've been prescribed Gaviscon solution to take after eating and before bed as this is when my heartburn flares up.

I have it now actually xx hope you feel better soon xxxx

Oh I hate it!

Rennies are the absolute best, but I am sick of the taste of them now, but they do work. You can get mint or fruit flavours, they are much better than gaviscon IMO.

I drink lots of milkshake which really eases it, and sleep propped up on your pillow rather than flat. Xx

My HB started last week, and I'm hating it too

I find that chilled water is a godsend for me, but like you say, as soon as you stop drinking it, the HB comes back. Lemonade hurts like a b****, and anything oily is just not worth eating. Unfortunately all my cravings are things I shouldn't be eating because they make it worse. You can search for "safe foods" online... apparently bananas are good, though I'm not craving bananas!

I bought Tums (pastels you can chew), but I don't think they do anything. I have Gaviscon in my bag and I find that's really soothing. Apparently there's no limit on how much you can have in a day, but if I were you I'd check that with the doctor before you overdose

Thanks guys, I think I'll try them both...does Gaviscon need to be prescribed or can you just buy it over the counter?

Just had ice cream and that has eased it for a second but all google things seem to say to stay away from dairy I will try bananas too.

xx

I use the chewy Rolaids - not the chalky ones, but the ones that look like pieces of gum. Then you can eat halves at a time if you want, and they DEFINITELY work. Feel better lady!

You can some Gaviscon products without needing it prescribed, but if you're needing the big bottle of the solution I've got, then you'll need your doctor to prescribe it. I think.

Besides, you're better getting it prescribed cos if you're in UK, you get free prescriptions if you have your maternity card thingy xxxx

You can apparently get it on prescription, which in England is free under your maternity exemption. I have issues trying to get appointments with my GP though, so I was in Superdrug looking at the prices of the larger quantities. You can get a big bottle over the counter for around £8, which is pretty pricey. If you can get it on prescription, you may as well.
