Full bladder for 20 week scan??

Hi, Sorry I know this has probably already been asking loads of times but I wasn't told in my appointment letter if we need to have a full bladder at the 20 week scan?

Yes or No what does everyone think?

Hi Hun, Yes for every scan you need a full bladder, they advise that its best to drink about a pint of water 1 hour before your appointment. Best of luck. xx

It was on my appointment card to drink a pint of water the hour before so I did and the lady doing the scan said I had a lovely full bladder! I was at the ANC on thursday and a lady couldn't have her 20 week scan because her bladder wasn't full enough, they had to get her a jug of water and let her wait for an hour! Hope that helps. Have fun! x

i always seem to drink to much and end up letting a bit out before the scan, plus i have a weak bladder anyhow, on my 20 week letter it says drink water before hand, i drink it in the car on the way to hosp as sometimes you can end up waiting ages for your scan.

Thats odd I got told for my scans ( have them every two weeks) that I had to empty my bladder. I asked the sonographer and she said you don't need a full bladder for scans after 12 weeks. xxx

I also just had a small bottle of water in car on the way to hospital for 20 wk scan, i wouldn't be able to hold onto a pint of water for an hour before and the time waiting around!

I think its only really important for 12 wk scan...i was told off for not drinking enough before that one! Ooops! I felt soooo smalll lol

xxx

It seems to depend on who is doing the scan. I went for my 20 week scan with a full bladder. I thought it was best to go with one and be ask to empty it rather than go with an empty bladder and have to wait until you fill it.

Hope your scan goes well xx

I specifically asked this at my scan (a bit early, 19 wks.) and the sonographer told me emphatically that a full bladder was not necessary at all. But, no one told me to have a full bladder at 12 wk. scan either, and that scan was fine, too.
