The belt is really great... is it the one with 3 straps? The single band isn't particularly effective.

You do really need to see a physio though, she can help you to stop it getting worse than it has to.

I suffer with it, so sympathise with you. Hope you find some comfort in the belt

My Dr told me I have it, but I don't think I actually do. I thought it was supposed to get worse, not better. The only pain I get is walking, getting in/out the car, up stairs and turning over in bed. The rest of the time Im ok.

My dr explained it to me but I still dont really understand it. I dont want to google it either incase I scare myself.

Im seeing a physio soon, and he's giving me one of those bands which I hope will help.

xxx

The MW or doc can refer you to the physio.

SPD happens because the hormone relaxin, which every woman has more of in pregnancy to help the ligaments stretch, over produces. This causes the ligaments around the Pelvis to loosen too much, allowing the bones to crunch and grate over each other. Woman who get it, have it in varying degrees, sometimes it's just a niggle when you roll over in bed, or step out of the bath. And others find it extremely painful, to the point where they can't walk without the aid of crutches, or not at all.

There is no cure for it in pregnancy, but as soon as you've given birth, your hormones return to normal, and the symptoms pretty much disappear straight away. However, if not treated properly in pregnancy, you can have ongoing problems after birth, so thats why it's important to see a physio. Make sure you push for it, as a few docs and MW's won't send you unless you really make a fuss.

If you can afford it, I would highly recommend a visit to a Chiropracter. Expensive, but well worth it

I have this & it is really painful. I saw physio yesterday & got the maternity belt (one with 3 straps) I am finding it a bit awkward to use but hope I will get used to it. I am back at physio next week & I am getting crutches I wont have to use them all the time just when it is at its worst. I have laso been told that if it carries on as severe that they will bring me in & induce me at 36 weeks but I really dont want that to happen!!

Good luck getting an appt with physio
