My husband was too impatient to feel kicks and would move his hand away and even though he has a lot of opportunity every night and has done for weeks he has still only felt them once. He watches the big movements and pokes from the other end of the room but does not like feeling my belly, like some of the others have said it freaks him out! I know he cares and when I went a full day without feeling anything I was getting scared but he was even worse than me and asking have you felt him yet every 5 minutes. But it seems that not all men get excited about these things, I know it is not nice but it really doesn't mean he doesn't care.

I had a very similar response from my OH which really surprised and confused me, but something seems to have clicked recently and he's now touching my bump loads more and taking the lead in choosing clothes and sorting out the nursery.

I think it is too much of an abstract concept for a long time with them, and it's only now when I'm getting on for 26 weeks and the size of a mini whale that I think his 'dad' brain is kicking in and he's just realised his son is actually on his way.

Seity - thats what my OH says

schmoo75 - yeah I agree, I know my OH cares and that when little man is here he will love him to pieces. He was the same with my daughters and as soon as each of them was born it was as if I didnt exist x

my oh was very similar when i was pregnant the first time he said it just didnt seem real to him, i found it quite upsetting but he would do anything for me just didnt get excited with kicks etc he turned out to be the most amazing dad and worships our little boy! Hes quite similar this time so i dont worry i just think its hard for them to get excited as they dont get to feel it grow like we do!!

I'm sure he doesn't mean to upset you. I think it just takes men longer to wrap their heads around the idea that there's a little person in there! I think once you get farther along it will hit him like a ton of bricks. In some cases, I'm sure it doesn't hit them until the day it's born and then the tears flow like a river *LOL*

Aww, my hubby just kinda smiled and his eyes went wide at first. But now baby's kicking more often and other people are getting a kick when I tell them to put their hand on my belly he's getting really possessive over the kicks!!

Mine wasn't that excited at first but now the kicks are much stronger and can be seen from the outside sometimes he is far more excited and is always trying to poke my belly to see if the baby will kick him back (usually he/she does!) Keeps saying it's like Alien though.
