Lying on your sides

Has anyone received any specific information about not lying on your back? I am really comfy on my back and although I try to sleep on either my left side or right side I keep waking up on my back. I am aware that we're not supposed to be on our back for long, but haven't had any specific information regarding when we should start this etc.

Just wondered if anyone else could shed any light.

Thanks.

I try my hardest to lie on my left side, but still shift to the right (but try to only stay until I am ready to flip back to my left again). I really try to avoid the back (it squishes all the organs and can also restrict blood flow). I shove a pillow at my back so I can't lie flat on my back..I end up at an angle which isn't as bad.

Same goes for the right side...makes the blood have to flow UP to the babies instead of down on your left side. That is what I read anyways. I would think as early as possible in the second tri is the best time to start this. It's even worse for me, because I already have 1 pound of baby inside of me between the two of them!!

left side is best, right side is fine. if you wake up on your back you are supposed to just not think about it and move back onto your side. although i have to admit if i wake up on my back i shift to my left side. if i lie on my back for any amount of time i get dizzy and feel really peculiar.

abz xx

I go to sleep on my left side, and usually wake up in the sunbathing position! lol (On back with my arms above my head)

Ever since I first heard that it's better to sleep on your left side, I've been doing it without any thought! I do lay on my right side too but only when my left hip starts hurting, but then as soon as it subsides I'm back on my left side again

I do lay on my back sometimes but only when i'm watching TV, and usually I'm sort of sat up a bit or cwtched up with OH.

I sleep on my back quite a lot. I do move around in the night, and usually start off on my side, but I just can't get to sleep. I figure a rested mummy is better for Pip than one who lies awake on her left side.

Our grandmothers and great grandmothers and great great grandmothers etc etc probably all slept on their backs without any concern...I wouldn't worry about it too much. x

Well when not pregnant I love to sleep on my stomach, but being pregnant is not good for that lol I know left side is best which is the side im most comfy on, but I also always wake up on my back, it seems to only be when im pregnant that I lay on my back, my OH gives me a nudge in the night if he notices me laying on my back, because I snore more that way too apparently lol
