Hey Buds

I mostly sleep on my right side I have to say. I only tend to move to my left side when I get a dead right leg! I do lie on my back sometimes too, but that's usually if I wake up and only for about 5 minutes. I've not actually read any official advice about it, but I figure it can't be that bad as I'm sure our mothers and many since slept however was comfortable.

I'm doing fairly well with sleeping on my left side. I'm lucky it's the left side that's the good side too because my right nostril is CONSTANTLY waking me up plugged to the max. Pregnancy rhinitis is awful!
I had never heard about sleeping on your back being not so good. Hmm, learn something new every day!

The problem with lying on your back is that in this position the weight of the uterus can compress the veins and lead to not enough oxygen getting to you, and to the baby. But . . . in the baby book I have it says that you will start to feel dizzy and light headed and get a racing heart long before you do any damage to the baby.

I was fine on my back until a couple of weeks ago and then started getting lightheaded etc if I lay on my back for even a couple of minutes. So if you aren't getting any problems from it yourself yet then there is probably no harm. I guess my bump has now just got big enough to start compressing things.

My Dreamgenii pillow is good for keeping me on my side without thinking about it, so that is worth thinking about if you want to avoid it. Or put a pillow behind your back so that you can't roll over in your sleep (which is effectively what the dreamgenii does).

I now sleep in an almost 'recovery' position flopped forward over my pillow. Which is very comfy.

the general rule of thumb is so not sleep on your back as the weight of the baby can restrict blood flow to the placenta, BUT you are ok to do so IF you dont feel dizzy of light headed.... if you do then you need to get off your back.
I sleep on my sides but i get such bad hip ache that i have to move onto my back and i wake up on my back every morning.
Sleep how you feel most comfy hun xx
