NCT ante-Natal classes

My manager was telling me about NCT Ante-Natal classes and she said she preferred them to the NHS ones and that I should really consider them.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had these classes and what they thought to them? I know you have to pay for them aswell so was just wondering what the difference between NCT and NHS ones actually are??

And how much they cost as I can't seem to find a price on their website

Thanks in advance

xxx

Hiya - i think the cost varies from place to place but there are discounts available. Ours was just over £120. However, they book up really fast and you may find there are no places left for your area and due date. I was advised to book mine by end of first tri at the latest to avoid disapointment (by several friends not NCT). everyone i know has enjoyed them but i imagine it varies from class to class. They facilitate the social side a lot so you can meet other mums to be in your area due at the same time and build a support network. If you are happy with your nhs one though i wouldn't worry to much about it.

Mine start a week on Tuesday, at 9pm. I can't wait!

My friends have all said the NCT classes are much better than the NHS ones, largely because they are smaller and more personal.

If your worried about the cost you can also pay in instalments, they send you all the information in a pack about how to do it, best to find out if there is still availabilty and go from there. I'm doing them as both me and hubby are newish to our area and we don't have any friends with babies so using it as a way to network!

I am booked on and mine are costing 270 pounds (I live in London). I think there are pay bands depending on area, and I presume London is most expensive. TBH I don't know if I am doing the right thing or not but three people I know have recommended them to me and they are the only friends I know who have children! Most of my friends don't have kids yet, so I haven't had any one tell me they are a waste of time or that they would just do NHS ones (although a friend of my OH who's expecting a baby in April told me I was wasting my time, but it's their first baby so I don't know how they would know!).

Found the link for course prices:

mine are about 15 hours in total I think. Also they do discounts for people on lower incomes and benefits.

I have booked onto NCT. It cost £130 but I used my health in pregnancy money.

Mine are 6 sessions of 3 hours each. Which must cover SO much more than the NHS one as it's a total of about 6 hours! I've also heard they are very good.

I want to do the NCT classes but in my area they are on a wednesday and OH works away that day He is currently looking for a new job so he doesn't have to work away at all but don't want to book them up then he can't make it. Don't really want to go on my own! So looks like we'll just be doing the NHS ones.
