Are you in the UK? If so you should be able to do some NHS ones for free. In answer to your question I am doing NCT ones (start in April) but last night a friend of my OH came round (who's expecting a baby in April) and said to us "why are you doing that - I think that's a complete waste of time" and made me feel really stupid. So no, I guess not everyone does them!

Ah - you're in Essex. Have you asked your midwife if they are available to you on the NHS? Maybe there are some but they aren't done at the hospital itself but somewhere else.

the only thing on offer to us when i had DD1 was the "parentcraft" classes. they were alright but didnt really tell us anything, and tbh were damm right rude to my hubby. they seemed to think he shouldnt have an opinion or have even a basic idea of what was happening to my body and baby. he was the one who knew i was seriously ill before i did, he can read me like a book and they didnt respect that fact.

now dont get me wrong, im sure loads of people get something from them but that wasnt our experience. especially after we had DD1 and realised that her birth wasnt like anything they said would or could happen.

one thing i would say tho is if you can get a tour of the hospital. it really can help when you are in labour and you know where you are going and what it looks like, etc.

ps all of this is just my opinion.

I already have 2 children and didn't go to any antenatal or parent craft classes I didn't suffer because of it and i certainly don't think I missed out on anything. However, this time my OH would like to go so I have agreed. Feel a bit silly really when i have done this before, but it will make him happy and that makes me happy so hey ho.... I will see what they say when I already know what to expect!! I will be taking E&L's advice though and taking a tour of the maternity unit just so I know exactly where to go!
