Constipation Pains

All evening I have been experiencing really bad pains... I think it's to do with constipation - I went to the loo yesterday and a bit today, but not properly and it wasn't easy...

It's right across the bottom of my stomach, it doesn't feel as intense now, but it's a bit more constant and spread - the pain was focussed mainly on one side (low) but now it's pretty much completely across the bottom...

Bean is kicking me a LOT! Maybe because I'm tensing up from the pain and she doesn't like having her space restricted!

I'm just trying to find something to ease it, I cannot go to the toilet again...I've been sitting and nothing is happening I've had half a cup of peppermint tea... Went for a walk around the apartment complex (though it was REALLY stormy and DH is a wimp about getting wet, so we came in after a short while )...That seemed to ease it a tiny bit, but not much.... I had a bowl of oatmeal... I'm just wondering if something like heat (hot water bottle or something) would ease it or make it worse? Any other recommendations?

I'll probably send DH out for some lactulose or something later on, but at the moment he's sleeping on the living room floor I just need an idea to ease the pain

xx

I would say glycerin suppositories. Even if you take a lot of fiber now, it would not softer the stools that are already dry. The suppository would dissolve and softer the stool, making it easier for you to get that out.

Some also said something about seating on a bowl of warm water.. don't know if that works though.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Ooh, I didn't think of them.. I was thinking Lactulose or the Stool Softener capsules...but they'd probably be more effective...and maybe cheaper!

Thanks for the reply, I'll give em a try.. Still looking for something to ease the pains until I can get some!

Thanks!

I got DH to get me some food while he was out, including a diet coke...on the basis that I'm to fill the cup with water afterwards and drink it all before bedtime! Will defo be trying to drink a decent amount every day, even just to avoid this again!!... I was fine up until about 4:30pm and I swear the pains got to the point where I'd describe myself as being in agony Not good!

DH picked up some glycerin suppositories...tbh I wasn't sure how far to put them up! Just messing with them made me need to go anyway still not completely relieved, but it's a start!! Urgh, I haven't felt that bad in AGES and never for that long...

Ah well, it took my mind off of back ache for the day!!

xx

Glad that you are feeling a little bit better. Just try to eat lot of fiber, or take some fiber supplements, like Metamucil, in the future, and drink tons of water.

Oh, and I think that Diet Coke may not be a good option, as it contains caffeine. Caffeine is as a diuretic... it can make you constipation worse.... Try drinking juice instead, like prune juice is good for constipation.

When I had those issues while pregnant I got told off by my nutritionist for taking senna... pfttt you try not pooping for 3 days when you're pregnant! lol. Senna is a gentle stool softener.

Try drinking a lot of fruit juice.

TMI but...
Lots of people have 'fructose intolerances' and can't drink much juice without it affecting their bowels. It's really common in kids esp first starting to have juice- our bodies were designed to digest fructose but not tons at a time at the concentration it's in when you drink juice

TBH I think my main problem has been not drinking much while I was at my mum's (we have bottled water at home and I have a thing about drinking tap water)... I know the diet coke isn't a good idea, but it is Maccy D's...so there's less actual coke in there!!

I can't take Senna, I tried it once and it made me cramp like crazy (it's actually an irritant laxative...it irritates your bowels to stimulate them into working...) - Yes. I'm a nerd. One of the few things I remember from my Pharmacy training...

We have to go to the store tonight anyway, so I'll pick up a load of juice etc... Got some Cranberry juice I should be drinking too. Bet if they do a Urine test it'll show up I have another UTI... We'll see!

Thanks for the info Feeling better this morning (aka not in pain) but still a little 'bunged up'...ew...
