Red face

weirdest & most scary advice i ever heard

I went for a walk on the beach with my OH and my 2 dogs this morning, and we met the couple with their dog. They knows about my pregnancy because we always see them walking their dog there.
Anyway, she came up to me and said that when the baby is born I should give my after birth to the dogs. it was a bit shocking for someone to say thing like that. I said i never heard that before.
She said it's very good idea of getting the dogs to accept the baby because after they eat it, they will have the baby smell with them.
There;s no second word coming out of my mouth. I was totally shocked.

I've never heard of that before, wouldn't a simple sleeper from the hospital after the birth work?

I have heard of women taking their placenta in pill form though.

Here's some interesting reading:

In some cultures the mother actually takes the placenta home, cooks it then the family eat it.

Pretty gross when you think about it but thousands of years ago that's what we would do. It's what all mothers do naturally.

Giving it to your dogs isn't though. That's just.... wrong.. I don't think I can see myself doing that. The reasons she gives sound like nonsense too.
What strange advise though.

Exactly tinytoes. If they eat it threy're not going to smell like it. It's going to develop a taste for it IF anything. Really strange advise. If you want the dogs to smell like baby throw the baby's blanket in with their bed.
That'll get a better response. Introducing a baby to your dogs is a difficult task for anyone. Feeding them the placenta isn't going to help

My boss told me as soon as i get home from the hospital i am to put the baby and carseat on the floor so the dogs can have a good sniff and get used to baby. I have 2 small dogs a miniature Jack Russell and a Papillion. Now the papillion has a thing about baby and booster seats when they are in the car. She likes to sit in them, better view i guess. So i would be extremely concerned that i would find her sitting on to of bubs. lol.
