I'm Currently Feeling: | Rhesus D negative blood group Hi
Got told today by the midwife that my bood group is Rhesus D negative. I have been told that I need an injection at 28 weeks.
But does anybody know the implications of this? Could it harm the baby?

I'm Currently Feeling: | Its a preventative measure, i cant remember the exact stuff but if youre Rhesus negative then although you wont get any probs with this baby, there could be probs with the next one as the Rh- makes your body build up antibodies against future babies.
The injection you get will prevent this happening.
Ill see if i can find a link, i dont think i explained very well lol | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | "There are four possible blood groups: A, B, AB and O. Everyone belongs to one of these four groups and except in very rare instances, it doesn't matter if you are a different blood group to the father of your baby. What does matter is the rhesus factor - whether or not you are rhesus-positive (RhD-positive) or rhesus-negative (RhD-negative). People who are RhD-positive have a protein on their red blood cells called D antigen, RhD-negative people do not have this. If you are RhD-negative and are carrying a RhD-positive baby, there is a risk that if yours and the baby's blood mix (which could happen during pregnancy or the birth) your immune system will produce antibodies against your baby's blood, which will cause anaemia and other problems in this baby or in future pregnancies. I'm Currently Feeling: | My friend has to have the same thing. She had a miscarriage last year (which she had an injection after) and she's 19 weeks pregnant now and having to have an injection at 28 weeks. It doesn't harm the baby in the slightest. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm Rhesus negative as well and I'm also having the injections at 28 and 34 weeks. It's harmless for the baby but is recommended for your future pregnancies - not so much this one.
Although if you have a tummy knock (seat belt injury etc) you may need to be checked out. Apparently 15% of the population are Rh-neg so I was a bit freaked out too xx xx | | | | Status: Online

I'm Currently Feeling: | I am Rh negative as well. Like the others have said the injections are completely harmless for your baby and the main reason you have to have them is for future pregnancies! I think I'll be getting mine in a few weeks | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'm RH negative as well. According to my doctor it isn't a big deal as long as they know about it from the start. | | | | Status: Online

| Me too. I'm O negative, had to have the Anti-D injection after a miscarriage and have been told I need to see a doctor with 72 hours if I have a vaginal bleed during this pregnancy, as well as an injection at 28 and 34 weeks - but its no big deal to the docs. As Arcanegirl said, they are a preventative measure and nothing to worry about. | | | | Status: Offline
