I'm Currently Feeling: | Travelling to exotic places! Hey everyone
Me & DH have just booked a holiday to Dominican Republic which is great, BUT... I didn't think to check it was OK to have vaccinations whilst pregnant before we booked it (I will be 22wks when we're due to travel) I have rang my GP & someone is gonna ring me back later but i'm really worried that we may have to cancel & lose our money?
does anyone have any experience of this??
Thanks in advance xx | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | You're allowed to fly up to 28 weeks aslong as you get something signed by a doctor. I dunno what though. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I found this on a site.... Quote:
I am approx 6 Weeks pregnant and im travelling to Dominican Republic next week! Can I take malaria tablets?
The recommendation is that travel to malarious zones is avoided during pregancy. However if travel is unavoidable, effective prophylaxis (preventative treatment) should be used as malaria is more severe during preganacy and the risk from malaria in pregnancy is higher than the risk from side effects of the drugs. You must go to see your GP to discuss which tablets to take.

The vacc needed are the normal ones pretty much. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/travel/ca...republic.shtml http://www.babyandpregnancy.co.uk/Va...sPregnant.html |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks for that Rach.
I spoke to the nurse at my GP's and she was really unhelpful! saying stuff like "well if it was me i wouldn't have booked it" & "you should've booked to go somewhere else that didn't require vaccines" I specifically told her that the holiday was already booked before i realised about the vaccinations!! how the hell is her making comments like that going to help me???
She then said rather stroppily that she'd have to check and call me back, I was looking forward to this holiday soooo much as I've never been outside of Europe & certainly never to a 5 star all inclusive resort. Me and hubby were thinking it'd be a great chance for us to relax and spend some quality time together before LO is born & he's blown his entire works bonus on treating us to this once in a lifetime trip so I'll be devastated if we have to cancel & he loses his hard earned money

I'm Currently Feeling: | You can take so many precautions against most types of tropical disease. Make sure you wear an ultra thick layer of mozzy repellant and drink bottled water only. No ice cubes etc. I just spent a month in Mexico - 21-25 weeks and my midwife said there was nothing they could do about vaccines. |
