Maternity Leave..when to start it?

Hi all,
Just wandered when people were planning to go on maternity leave?
Im a staff nurse and work in the accident and emergency department so will be very busy over the summer months! I have got a wks holiday approx every 4 weeks from the beg of june but im not due to leave work until the beg of sep, so only 4 weeks before the baby is due, am i being alittle silly?!!! I really wanted to have more time off after the baby was born!
I work full time at the mo so dont want to push myself too much!
What do you all think?! xx thankyou in advance xx

As you work in such a busy job i wouldn't leave it too late to leave as it can become very uncomfortable to work in the final weeks.

Also, if you plan to take Holidays before you maternity leave and start your maternity leave later may i warn you not to leave it too late because if you go into early labour your maternity leave starts automatically from when the baby is born, you may lose you holidays! (depending on company policy)

I am going on maternity leave at 36 weeks but with a weeks leave before that. So ill actually be leaving work at 35 weeks.

You dont need to make the decision just yet. Hope it all goes well for you

xxx

I'm a teacher and was hoping to work until the end of the summer term (23rd July) baby due 31st July. Just recently I've started to feel pregnant - I mean heavy and bad back etc. I only told employers today that I'm gonna start Maternity on the 15th instead to give me a couple of weeks.

You don't need to tell them until 15 weeks before your EDD so don't rush and see how you feel a bit later on xx xx

I'm a teacher too and baby is due Sept 16th. SO I'll break up for summer on 19th July and not intending to return after summer.

But I agree with yourself that I'd rather have more time after baby is born.
