we have a vein that runs down the right side of the spine (Vena cava). it helps drain fluids from lower body. So laying on our left reduced the chances of it getting squished and us becoming water logged / getting fat ankles legs etc. It would eventually also affect the flow of things to/from baby I think.
Least thats what i thought.

the left side is for better circulation i think. i have been having a bit of trouble sleeping lately. i bought a long body pillow and tuck one bit between my legs like tiny toes said. ( by the way the pic is hilarious). ive only slept on it for one night but it went quite well. DH doesnt like sharing the bed with it tho, i think hes quite jealous.

I have a doctors appointment Weds. so I'll ask her what she thinks, I do try to sleep on my left side but it makes my hip hurt after a while and I end up changing positions. I think you are told to sleep on your left side because it helps blood flow better?

omg your all actually managing to get sleep? :'( I'm so jelous. I am 22 weeks on Thursday and omg does hubby get annoyed. He works 6 days a week and does lates, so comes home pooped... to be kept awake all night by me tossing and turning... and along with that my 2-5 toilet trips in the night. I feel so bad for him. but at the same time some nights I am in tears because I cannot get comfy. I feel physically and mentally drained and just want to go to sleep, and when I finally do fall asleep I am awake half hour to an hour later either uncomfy needing a wee or too hot! ARGH!!
I've tried the pillow between the knees etc, but my legs get all funny with me at night. The rest of me can be comfy but you legs scream "move me move me im not comfy" and that goes on all night.
I was tempted to get a spare duvet last night and sleep on the floor (so hubby could get some sleep) as I feel so mean on him. We have no bed in the nursery and no sofa downstairs. xx

Sorry you are not getting any sleep Excitedmum2b - have you tried exercising to make yourself more tired? I go to Aqual natal classes which make me sleep like a baby!

I find that I have to get up as soon as i wake up now, otherwise if i oversleep, I wont get to sleep at all at nights. I was loving the napping too

Perhaps anxiety and stress at keeping your OH awake isnt helping either - I wouldnt recommend sleeping on the floor.

lol I wouldn't sleep on the floor hunni, was just so frustrated I felt like I might! I am planning on looking into aqua natal classes, but they only do them in works time which means taking half a days holiday each time I want to go to a class. But it def sounds worth going to.
I have tried every position I can think of for sleeping and nothing helps. I love weekends, as then through the day I can have little naps and then I'm not too bothered about not sleeping at night.
I don't think I could knacker myself out anymore to be honest hun, as I am absolutely exhausted all the time now lol x
