Got myself in a rite old state *constipation related & alot of TMI*

i am in so much agony its unbareable

ive been struggling to go to the toilet for a few days but today after my tea i tried to go and its just impossible its stuck and wont come out, and ive been sat in tears with pain, i cant walk straight or sit properly im laying in a position that keeps pressure off my bum and i just feel like its on fire

i jumped in bath coz the pain was so bad and its eased me enough to 'cope' for now but im still in alot of pain, ive drank loads of water and still am doing, i really hope it comes out soon

i cant get any medication for it tonight so i just dont no what to do

i also had a huge panic attack because it made me feel crampy and sore at the front, so im just scared and in pain

is there anyone out there going through this?

If you have nothing at home in the way of medication, drink as much warm water as you can this evening. That should help soften your stools a little to help you go. Another remedy that my friend swears by is a few tablespoons of honey in a glass of milk, twice a day for a few days.

Then tomorrow, get yourself some Milk of Magnesia. It is magic stuff and will help to keep you regular with a small dose before bed every other night.

You will also need to up your fruit, veg and fibre intake.

I've suffered with IBS for many years, so can truly empathise

Me.....mines was so bad I ended up with an impacted bowel which meant 6 nights in hospital followed by another 2 night stay a few weeks after that.

Is there a 24 hour chemist near you? If so, try and get lactulose honey, it does help. If not,
do as trix's suggested with the hot water.

Don't panic over the cramps they are identical to period cramps but honestly it's your bowel.

I really feel for you I had this for 2-3 weeks early on and I am now not as scared about child birth as the pain from constipation was unbearable.

As already said drink as much warm water as you can, or pure fruit juices if you have any.

When you can get to the chemist get Movicol sachets, the chemist will tell you how many to take as it differs depending on how bad the constipation is. Also take lactulose liquid this helps to soften what is stuck.

I also found that kneeling on the floor and stretching forward resting my arms on a chair and rocking backward and forward a bit did help to ease the really really bad pains. Even though I did look a sight doing this!!

Hope this helps a little and you feel better soon.x.

you poor thing..Ive been in that position a few times...get some lactulose from the chemist..works a treat..and I would recommend keeping a packet of glycerin supposotries in the cupboard..not the nicest thing to have to do but they lubricate hard poo so you can actually go..

It's very scary honey. I've had 5 MC's and honestly thought that's what was happening when I got admitted with my bowels, couldn't believe how similar the cramps were.

Glad it's eased

Hello my honey, well here we are again with another identical symptom, hehe.

I've had awful constipation since week 8 - exactly the same as you were describing. Nothing worked and I knocked back pear juice, prune juice, senna, water, you name it!

I was recommended lactulose which hubby got from over the counter in Boots (£5 for 150ml). It takes a couple of days to go through you but when it does, the relief is immense! Since then I've had a prescription from the doctors for 300ml of the stuff and am now taking it religiously. It's sweet and oily but really good.

Just make sure, when you take it, take it with a mouthful of water or something as it can make you nauseous on an empty stomach. Don't take Senna,it's a bit 'rough' shall we say. When I spoke to my GP he was very sympathetic but we had a good giggle too about it. I'd recommend making an apt if you find the lactulose helps as you can get it free on prescription.

In the meantime, a little warm hot water bottle on your bottom and a couple of paracetamol will help. And here's another trick which hubby suggested and helped as I also had fissures...get a little bit of vaseline and put it where your anus is. It'll soften the skin and if you need to go, eases things a bit. It's perfectly safe too.
