if u left ur work and claimed for benefits it can delay how and when u get paid, as u left your job.
as working with 18 hours they might be able to help with housing costs, i would ask your local council as each council is different. also as u got somewhere to live they wouldnt class u as a priority and they may offer u a temp bed and breakfast room and its not nice, i tell ya!

before u decide to quit ur job, contact the jobcentre and council as they can give u advice hun xxx

You need to phone your council and get on the housing list.

If you private rent you can claim HB housing benefit and CT council tax. You will also get income support, child benefit and tax credits when you have baby.

At present if you leave your job the only way you will get money soonish is if you leave due to your pregnancy and get a doctors certification to say this. You will then be entitled to disablility benefit for the short term, other wise it will be job seekers which may have a delay in coming in as you left your job of your own free will.

After 29 weeks you will be entitled to Maternity Allowance which should keep you afloat until babe arrives and your HIP health in pregnancy grant, your midwife will sort form for you. Also there is a grant of £500 from sure start you can claim if you meet criteria of being on income support/jobseekers/hugher tax credits which I am sure you will meet.

Dont know if I covered it all but get on phone to council as a first stop.

i am only going on what my sister did.
xx

dont just quit your job thinking you will get benefits..you wont, necessarily.

At the moment, you will get sickness benefit (if you leave due to health reasons) or Jobseekers Allowance (but if you just leave, you may not get this). When your baby is born you will get income support and child tax credit if you dont work.

But, if you carry on working and you are on a low income, like you are, you can probably get some housing and council tax benefit (but by the sounds of it, if you are living by yourself, you probably wont qualify until the baby is born)

You need to get yourself on the housing associations list and also look for a private rented flat or house as queues on housing lists are quite large now.

I would speak to a benefits advisor first at the local council re: housing and benefit so you know where you are before you do anything.

I'm a lone parent adviser at Jobcentre plus. From 29 weeks pregnant you can make a claim to Income support as a lone parent as you don't live with your OH. You can then claim Housing benefit and council tax benefit. If you put your name on a housing list then it could take a long time to get a house as you already have somewhere to live but if you go private then you can move in as soon as you like but you obviously have to get the money together for a deposit as the council won't pay this for you. Depending on where you live depends on how much local housing allowance you are entitled to. If you got any more questions just ask x x

Are you getting a SSP (statatury sick pay)? You should get this at least.

Correct me if I am wrong here but wouldnt the council give a crisis loan of some sort to get the deposit together as this would be cheaper for them than housing her in a hostel/BB if she declared herself homeless that is.

Just a thought.
xx

the council dont give out crisis loans, although some councils have a tenancy deposit scheme where they help people who cant afford deposits. They use a "bond" instead of the cash but most landlords wont take this and councils have specific criteria you have to meet, but its worth asking. I think crisis loans are given out by the jobcentre but i dont think they give them for deposits..

You'll be lucky!.. Walking out of you're job could land you getting nothing as you left of you're own free will.

Like the others said there are certain things you would be entitled to but no one will praise you for quitting work and living off tax payers money..

As for a council property again you'll be lucky.. Me and my OH are living with my parents.. Over-crowded.. And even with a letter to say my parents want us out and the council have told us we're only entitled to a 1 bed property intill the baby gets here.. But then by the time the baby DOES get here, if we tired to get a 2 bed we'd probably be told that the child is ok to stay in our room intill the age of 4 and so wouldn't be a priority to be moved!

I personally if I were you.. Would stay in work, Go private and get Housing Benefit.. You'll be alot better off!

xx
