I'm a lone parent adviser at Jobcentre plus. From 29 weeks pregnant you can make a claim to Income support as a lone parent as you don't live with your OH. You can then claim Housing benefit and council tax benefit. If you put your name on a housing list then it could take a long time to get a house as you already have somewhere to live but if you go private then you can move in as soon as you like but you obviously have to get the money together for a deposit as the council won't pay this for you. Depending on where you live depends on how much local housing allowance you are entitled to. If you got any more questions just ask x x

Are you getting a SSP (statatury sick pay)? You should get this at least.

Correct me if I am wrong here but wouldnt the council give a crisis loan of some sort to get the deposit together as this would be cheaper for them than housing her in a hostel/BB if she declared herself homeless that is.

Just a thought.
xx
Well at the moment she has a place to live. Obviously if she declared herself homeless then there is a possibility they would help her out but not using a crisis loan as thats not what its for. Also she would be lying about this and is then open to fraud unless her parents declared that they want her out of the house by letter. There is a possibility of applying for a community care grant but they will only give her so much. I would assume she would want help with furniture costs as well and this is done with a community care grant so there is a lot of money to ask for. Everything is decided on an individual basis and is also done by a decision maker that doesn't work for the jobcentre so i can only advise. At the end of the day you can only apply and try x x

If you have had a sick note due to pregnancy by law this cannot affect the companies decision to keep you on. x x

This is an amasing site for working out what you are entitled to. One thing you will need to know is your local housing allowance rate, which you can find out here. https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/Secure...hType=PostCode

While benefits are not the most dignified option, knowing what you are entitled to will hopefully help relieve the worry which you certainly dont need right now.

i have just joined housing association list, as im not going back to work. we have been put on as a bronze candidate. There are loads of people infront of us so its not likely we will have anywhere in a rush. Also we can only have 1 bedroom flat till baby is hear. We are actually breaking our tenancy agreement by having a child in our house. But i dont want to tell them and then us end up in a hostel or something. Although they will find out soon enough i guess. As for leaving your job you will either not get help or there will be a delay as you left your job by yourself. If your doctor signed you off then you would get help. If you have worked in 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before your baby is due and have earnt a minmun of 30 a week then you get mat pay. The weeks dont have to be continuous. You will get £123 or 90% of your earnings which ever is lowest

If you are a lone parent whether you are sacked, signed off by a doctor or leave of your own free will it does not make a difference to your claim. They will just ask you why you left. x x

Me and my OH are 18 and 17 and we both work. We originally applied for council housing with letters from both our parents providing letters saying both houses are already over crowded. But realistically we knew it would be at least a year before we were provided adequate housing, maybe more. We decided to go private, its definately worth looking as we were surprised at what we could afford. Has to be a better route than giving up your job. Try looking on websites at private renting before deciding too quickly.

Not encouraging you to quit your job, but if your partner is not going to be around, will it still be possible for you to work and bring up your baby? If you have family around to help then best of luck, but for some people this isnt an option. If you claim housing benefit it doesnt mean you have to wait for the council to house you, you can still rent privately. By using the local housing allowance calculator link i left in my last post you can find out how much you are entitled to weekly. It will be alot more after baby is born obviously. Around £110 per week. You can use that calculation to get an idea of what kind of private accommodation you would be able to afford. If the rent is slightly more you can top this up yourself.

I've been asking kind of the same questions this week too!!
My situation is a bit different to yours, as will your area be too.

But the council have basically told me, I won't get a council house, because im in rented accomadation and me and OH both work part time. The fact that we can't afford to live here, is basically our own fault. If I made myself jobless, it would have no affect on anything, apart from make us even more disadvantaged.

I would only be on silver band for the housing list, so there's not really a point in doing anything, and thats WITH the baby here.

When the babies born my right to benefits will change a bit, ie i will get housing benefit, child benefit, working tax credits. But I will still have to rent somewhere.

Basically, the council have told me to hang on here, NOT to make myself voluntarily homeless or jobless, as this will make the situation worse.
Ie, they will investigate why we did such things.

Wait until the babies born, then see what happens then and what we're both entitled to. Bit of a crapper but oh well I really don't want to bring a baby into the house we're in, but i guess thats the way things are!

It may be a lot different for you, but just thought i'd share my story!! xxxxxxx
