Piercings

Hi I just have a question do u have to take out your belly piercing? or is that your own personal choice? Also I have my nipples done and down south lol. I would only think that my nipples would come out if I breastfeed and down there when im about to give birth. Im not too sure how this works all my piercings I got done after my son was born.

Thanks

i bought a maternity belly bar, but took it out at 26 weeks, as it was leaving a funny mark, now its left a strange purple mark, not like a stretch mark i dont really know what it is it just doesnt look very nice! x

The maternity bars are flexible but they can only do so much...I took mine out ages ago but I can see that if I had tried to keep it the piercing wouldn't be happy. It has moved right up quite a way so that the bottom hole is no longer IN my navel but right up, so there's not a ridge where it can sit comfortably. This would put a lot of pressure on the piercing and could cause it to reject or just stretch...I've seen many many of them that have just gone into a sort of slit shape rather than a neat hole.

They usually close up pretty fast, within a few days or even hours, even if it's years old. Maybe see how you're finding it once you get a bit bigger, but my belly button feels so tight and uncomfortable at the moment, I don't think I could stand having a bar in there.

If you want to try and keep your nipple piercings, just grab some KY Jelly and always use that to change it...because of the tissue type you can tear it slightly if you just shove a bar through [and get internally threaded barbells if you haven't already] ...plus they'll probably be sensitive enough as it is!

Depending on what piercing you have below the belt and what thickness of jewellery you have in you may be alright leaving it out....I've had three hood piercings and one of them was stretched up to 3.2mm [8ga in US sizes I believe] which has never closed up despite being out for about 7yrs...the others at 14ga closed up pretty quick. I could still go a few days with those though.

I asked my midwife about genital piercings but she said it would depend on the piercing if it would have to come out or not...she'd never heard of the one I have [triangle] so she said she'd check nearer the time! Might be worth checking with your midwife anyway as you might be able to just leave it in.

Hope that helps a wee bit

I got my OH to take my hood piercing out in a moment of panic and I kinda wish I hadn't now! I took my nipple bar out too but i've had that done for four years and it's not healed up. I do leak out of the sides aswell as the front though, gonna see what the midwife says about that! I took my belly bar out aswell because the hole has turned into a kinda slit!
